1935: Actress Beverlee McKinsey (died May 2, 2008, born Beverlee Magruder) ("Another World," "Love is a Many Splendored Thing," "Texas," "Guiding Light") was born in McAlester, OK.
1942: Canadian comedian David Steinberg is born in Winnepeg, Manitoba. His 1972 "David Steinberg Show" can be viewed as the ancestor of "SCTV," and similar to today's "Larry Sanders Show."
1944: Actor Sam Elliott is born in Sacramento, CA. His TV credits include guest appearances in "Felony Squad," "Gunsmoke," and "Hawaii Five-O," and roles on "Mission: Impossible" and the short-lived 1983-84 NBC series "Yellow Rose."
1957: Actress Melanie Griffith is born in NYC. Among many roles for the former Mrs. Don Johnson, her TV roles include the short-lived 2005-06 WB sitcom "Twins" and the again short-lived "Viva Laughlin" in 2007, plus numerous guest appearances on shows as "Vega$," "Starsky and Hutch," and "Carter Country."
1958: Actress/director Amanda Bearse ("Married . . . With Children") is born in Winter Park, FL.
1969: Actress Sharon Tate (whose TV credits included a 1965 appearance on "Beverly Hillbillies") is murdered by members of Charles Manson's "family" in Los Angeles.
1970: The son of former New York governor Mario Cuomo, "Good Morning America" anchor Chris Cuomo is born in Queens, NY.
1974: President Richard M. Nixon becomes the first US President to resign in office in the wake of certain impeachment due to the Watergate scandal, and Vice-President Gerald R. Ford ascends to the presidency.
1976: Actress Jessica Capshaw ("Grey's Anatomy") is born in Columbia, MO. She is Steven Spielburg's stepdaughter.
1983: Actress Ashley Johnson ("Growing Pains," "All American Girl," "What Women Want," "Dirt") is born in Camarillo, CA.
