August numbers are here

August numbers: Houston/Galveston

Majic back on top.

The Beat still well ahead of The Box.

The Spot continues in damage control.

Still a yawning gap between 93Q and The Bull.

New car smell wearing off of La Ley?

La Raza sinks into the ones. This has happened before.

Sol Radio continues to get some numbers.

Classical still consistently showing up on a HD-only signal, but Praise also makes an appearance.

New car smell wearing off of La Ley? It is time for Sbs to start adding other talents .

La Raza sinks into the ones. This has happened before. I would expect don’t cheto to be doing better but then again his show starts at 8am

Sol Radio continues to get some numbers. Perfect example of some people liking radio with no structure

Classical still consistently showing up on a HD-only signal, but Praise also makes an appearance.

KLOL number one in Spanish.

KAMA very low.

KROI went down on ratings but is now over KQQK, KLTN and KOVE.
I suspect there are still issues with undercount of Hispanic listeners. The current ICE crackdowns aren’t helping that situation; many people are likely staying off the radar even if there are no issues with their status, or they are U.S. citizens who might have extended family that could be targeted.

Have to wonder if MediaCo is having second thoughts about holding on to its Houston Radio properties.

There is no undercount. When Nielsen does not meet its proportionality targets in any demographic, they use weighting to achieve numeric balance. They have been doing this since 1965.

That would not affect people who already were on the panel, where they can stay for two years or longer.

Illegal residents have never been likely participants in the PPM as they don't want to be "tracked".

You somewhat missed my point. While actual panel participants might have no status issues, there may be family members, friends and other associates who do. This likely will affect how many people are willing to participate in PPM measurement, as even legal residents and U.S. citizens won’t want to be tracked by a device that is always with them. The fear might be that data might lead law enforcement to where undocumented people are.

I sure would be hesitant to wear a trackable device if I had family members or friends with questionable legal status. This is why many want to stay off the radar. Collateral damage.

With the Supreme Court now allowing racial profiling by law enforcement, the problem is going to get worse. When did the ghost of Roger Taney reclaim a seat on the high court?

Look at this bunch of regional mexican stations just beating each other up only to drop further down. Wheres that guy that said they were going to be #1 and the other stations were going to off air. 😂

I’m considering flipping some of the Regional Mexican stations I over see.
Why? Here or elsewhere?

While being fully aware of current demographics in the Houston market, we may be at a saturation point for Spanish language formats when you throw in all the translators. Nonetheless, I hear rumblings about a new player possibly in the works…🤔🤫🫣🤐

Way past the saturation point. Wait and see.

I once worked in a market with 5 AC stations.

All were full market, 100,000 watt FM stations; not rimshots.

It was pretty brutal. You'd have the same song playing on 3 to 5 of them at any given moment. Nobody could crack above a 3 share until some of them finally flipped format.

You could say the same thing about sports in this market, but rule #1 is you can't win if the signal doesn't reach the audience.

There likely isn’t room for three local sportstalkers in Houston. DFW once had three and is now down to two, both of which are healthy.

The KFNC signal has been its biggest liability. It’s the most distant rimshot for a large part of the market, and is frequently clobbered by tropo from KWTX and KFTX.

Houston may likely be down to two sportstalkers in the near future.
