Some things I picked up from this month's PPMs:
1. Clear Channel, per usual, continues it's dominance atop the Cleveland books. It seems CC has held the top four spots in more books than not over the past year.
2. Nice move up for The Fan. Since KNR isn't included in this book, I wonder if the excitement of Browns preseason (seems to have boosted WMMS nicely, as well) and Buckeyes has led to a nice jump for KNR as well, or if The Fan's rise has come at their expense.
3. The cume continues to erode for The Wave and their AQH is down considerably from their strong debut. I wonder if Rubber City still thinks this was the best direction for 107.3.
4. When was the last time Kiss was out of the Top 10? It seems whereas the drive toward CHR has helped Q somewhat in the ratings, it has really brought Kiss down.

The Lake is doing extremely well in AQH, and is near the top in cume despite the August numbers less than July. They do well because they seem to pick up an audience that likes 80's and 90's music, whereas New 102 is concentrating more on newer products.

Speaking of WDOK, they're down in both parts of the overall ratings. Maybe they'll pick up now that fall is coming.

The Wave is steady in AQH, while down in cume. Perhaps like with 102, they'll increase more in fall.

The Fan did have a healthy jump. It might continue as Browns start playing football (I know the games are on WMMS and WTAM), providing opportunities for the hosts and listeners to call in with thoughts. It's the only CBS station to show increase.

WNCX is still doing well and WMMS is up. The Buzzard will see higher ratings once football gets underway.

CC seems to have products that really have people respond to after tuning in and willing to stick around for hours. WTAM, Majic, The Lake, WGAR and WMMS are doing so well, there is no need for them to mess with their formulas.

KISS-FM has been losing out to Q104 for a while. Q appears to do a better job with current music than KISS and with an all-local lineup on weekdays/weeknights. Though Kasper and Java Joel are pretty good, Q has a better jock lineup and didn't skip a beat with the new jocks.

i live in east tennessee now but i lived in cleveland from 1968 to 1984 and whlk 106.5 the lake reminds me of wgcl g 98.5 fm as teenager growing up in the 1980's. wgcl from what i have heard did well in radio ratings in the 1980's. that is why i think the whlk 106.5 the lake has done so well. just wish they had all dj's 24/7 and local ones as well but i know that will never happen on the lake. wmms playlist for me has gotten better. most of the alternative went to the wmms HD 2 signal 99x. that left more rock songs to play. they play stuff from the early 1980's and 1970's now. wow!! for me i listen when they had the hairband weekend and it seem to me from what i heard online while listening and on their facebook page - people who listen went nuts. then 99x comes on the air 4 weeks after that. cleveland browns football will help wtam 1100 am and wmms 100.7 fm ratings i think also. i have not seen wmms ratings at 5.0 in a long time. do you know how long it has been since they have been that high?? if you can let me know and thanks. i love 106.5 the lake alot.
 
I think it was years, but 'MMS has been up and down for years depending on the Browns games. The AMD and PMD shows are also strong players for the station.

106.5 has always been home to 80's music since its "Lite Rock" days. They're practically the only or one of the fewer stations playing music from that decade.

the reason why i listen to the radio is music and dj's. sirus xm is something i will never listen to. i hope that some day casey kasem's american top 40 the 80's edition is played on 106.5 the lake. i used to listen to wgcl 98.5 in the 1980's every sunday from 12 noon to 4pm. i did not miss a show. now i wish i would have taped those shows back then. i would some how some way put them on a mp3 file now. i know it is just the cleveland radio market that you talk about in here. i called it the cleveland akron canton radio market. if whof 101.7 had a stronger signal - i think that would give new 102 some competition in cleveland. but i have been told my relatives that whof 101.7 singal fades fast on interstate 77 near interstate 80 which is called the ohio turnpike. i like whof better than new 102. i like wqal Q 104 better than i like waks 96.5 kiss fm. i am a mixed up radio listener i guess. i like wmms now with their playlist and i will try their morning show and afternoon show when i get time. thanks for replying.
