August PPM's

WMGK continues dominating. It is just incredible to see: 6.9 - 7.5 - 8.5 - 10.6 - 9.8 - 9.5.

I guess B101.1 now lives in the 5's and 6's range when it's not Christmastime. Not bad, but not like the old days.

KYW dropped a full point, to the lowest in recent memory. WHYY is also lower than I can remember recently. Maybe people just took a break from receiving information!

WPHT (in-market propaganda) finally bested New Jersey 101.5 (out-of-market propaganda). They must feel so good.

... when they had a talented and skilled manager in Jerry Lee.

I am unsure how female in-demo numbers look, but 96.5's beauty pageant rise since flipping to Hot AC is impressive. It also appears to have taken some wind out of Q102's sails.

WBEB is still a strong station ratings wise. It look the Hot AC flip may have helped WTDY
They are "strong" but not "dominant". Under Jerry, you had to buy WBEB. Today, it is easy to buy around it.

I find this interesting too. I mean, it may be a coincidence, of course, but these Q102 numbers dipped when their only direct competitor shifted out of their lane. In sampling both stations over the summer, I've found that I prefer WTDY's (seemingly) larger and deeper library with all those Golds thrown in. Q102 sounded like a very limited jukebox with crazy-tight rotations. Maybe I wasn't alone in wanting the additional variety? Maybe folks who were used to switching between 96.5 and 102.1 like what they're hearing and aren't switching away from 96.5 as often as they used to? From what I hear, Q's reaction has been to also toss in some Golds. You know what they say...

WPEN-FM's ratings are pretty rough. Not saying a flip is imminent but I have to imagine Beasley's keeping an eye on it,

Perhaps with all that’s been said about a period of CHR “doldrums” (or down cycle or whatever term one likes), it happens to be one of the examples. When the stories flow about top 40’s resurgence, let’s see what happens.

As for the B…sure, there’s no question that it ain’t Jerry Lee’s station, and CBSEnterAudicy of whatever they’re called this week isn’t exactly working things his way. Eh, so be it, that’s their property. But…how much of the general changes in standings can be attributed to what the others are doing right? To general audience and demographic shifts?

The beauty of getting out on top is it can’t be shown you might not have stayed there. You become something of a myth, when it is possible those outside factors still could have knocked you down a few pegs, too. No one is infallible.

Certainly not saying it’s all one thing or another, but the B and its management isn’t the only variable in the equation.

25-54: 1. WMMR 2. WBEN 3. WUSL 4. WXTU 5. WTDY (up from #8) 6. WBEB 7. WDAS
18-34: 1. WBEN 2. WBEB 3. WXTU 4T. WUSL 4T. WMMR 6. WDAS
18-49: 1. WBEN 2. WMMR 3. WXTU 4. WUSL 5. WDAS 6. WBEB

I know it's only 6+ (which is good for nothing more than bragging rights), but I must say it is rather amusing WPST is only seven tenths of a share behind Q102! I admittedly overlooked this tidbit earlier.

So, it's not just TDY that is stepping on Q102.

The problem is that Jerry bought out his partner in 2006 for $85 million for half of the station. In 2018 when he sold to Entercom, he got $57 million for the entire station. So he lost over $25 million on the sale.

Were Jerry still running it, I am about 95% sure it would be in the same position he kept it at for over half a century.
