August Ratings

Ratings for July 18th through August 14th.

WCVO has dropped by almost two shares since June.
CD 102.5 now up to a 3.9, tied with The Blitz. Has 102.5 ever had that high of a rating?
WMNI-FM (now WJKR) up to a 0.6 with the "Jack FM" flip. WMNI-AM not showing same improvement, sitting at a 0.2

WHOK 107.1 now up to a 1.3.
WZOH 95.5 The Game still not in the ratings. I guess this is a permanent thing since they haven't been in the ratings books since the flip to sports.

Columbus Ratings for August WTVN Reaches Another New Low

3.8. Lower than rim shot WWCD with a 3.9. Jack has a .6 share. WMNI with a .2

WNCI with a 12.4 with sister WCOL FM with a 10.4 leading the pack

This was a particularly good month for WWCD. Their 3.9 not only edged out faltering WTVN, but also tied big-signal 99.7 the Blitz, and put them more than a full share ahead of improved-signal CC Alternative X106.7.

As for Jack's 3/4-month initial results (103.9 was still all-news the first week) it's obviously way to soon to draw any conclusions, other than that they are doing better than the all-news format (but what wouldn't?). Hopefully the newly beefed up signal will help.

Speaking of Jack, I was surprised to see someone on their FB page complain that they couldn't receive it 25 miles away in Mt Sterling, which is especially surprising given that 103.9's new tower is west, and Mt Sterling is to the southwest on 71.

I am sure we'll see both WMNI AM and WJKR rise some more before they peak.

Something i have been curious about with WTVN dropping in the ratings so much, how much of that could be people listening to them on either I heart Radio or WODC hd2. Would they have to subscribe separately for each of those signals to register in the numbers we see?
I know that i haven't tuned into 610 since early this year but i listen to WTVN everyday.

If the ratings over there were really this bad don't you think something would have changed by now.

WCVO will rebound -- I've seen these drops with them before.

CD102.5 -- I don't ever remember in book or PPM WWCD ever being as high as they are now -- Goes to show with the right promotion team and major involvement in community as CD102.5 is with local music and community events that you can succeed as a stand alone FM. [No doubt the better signal of 102.5 vs. 101.1 has helped some too - You can actually get the station at the studios now without much static].

Give it time for WJKR and WMNI to see some rebound -- I am pretty confident that both Jack FM and the new 920 WMNI will see more success than they ever had with the news talker format... Makes you wonder if NABCO is kicking themselves in the butt for the changes they made to both signals WMNI was doing just fine all things considering when it had the standards format prior to flip to news... and 103.9 had better ratings in it's previous format.. I suspect we'll see Jack FM further rise -- will it have the same success as R1 did with 98.9? I am not confident but if NABCO does it right it could -- 103.9 has a good signal now.

WZOH -- Is anyone listening? I still question wilks move with this one -- While K95.5 did not have stellar ratings they did well with many years of country format at 95.5.. I am not sure moving that format to 107.1 was the best idea --- Personally I would have flipped "Wink 107.1" to something else and left 95.5 alone (with the country format).

I really miss the days of having everyone show up in the PPMs.. Would be interesting to see how the other groups are doing in town.

I'm sure people will listen to WZOH....on Sundays for Browns' games. Any promotions or billboards around Columbus for the station?

I see we've got a second thread on the August PPMs going here...

Per a July 12 comment by billf82 In the thread "Columbus June PPMs," WZOH doesn't show up because that station isn't part of Wilks Arbitron subscription in Columbus, similar to how 103.5 the Game is omitted from Wilks' Fresno subscription. So we don't know how ZOH is performing. My guess is "not great."

That 3.9 is WWCD's highest share ever, although their 3.8 in March wasn't far behind.

Matt, same goes for me re not being able to see how the other players are doing. I sure hope Nielsen changes the subscriber-only policy when the sale finally goes through. I'm hopeful because Nielsen has such a long history of publishing ratings for public consumption in TV -- even demos and dayparts.

Re CVO, yeah, I'm sure they'll rebound. But I can never understand all the turnover at that station when they're doing so well. It's not like it's CC...

They will rebound I am sure of it. I give them kudos though -- They invest heavily in billboard advertising .. Clear Channel has to love them... I see a 104.9 The River billboard it seems almost on every other corner in some places. (I know it's not that many but yeah they have invested heavily in that method of advertising for sure).

Ok -- they have the Browns... but beyond that I don't know how many are actually listening to the syndicated CBS content... I have not seen any billboards or promo around town for ZOH'

The 12.4 is indeed quite a number, but it's about the same as the 12.2 they had last month. Billboard Top 40 Update recently had an article about three Top 40's that are hitting rating highs, starting with WNCI. I think they should have mentioned Tony Florentino. It's under his direction that the station really started its upward trajectory -- not to take away any credit from McCoy.
