August ratings

Some thoughts about the August DFW radio ratings.
First, I'm not sure August is exactly representative of normal radio listenershi since many folks were doing last-minute vacations before school started.
Aside from that, KLTY has solidified itself as the #2 station in the market. I think that's pretty impressive for a Christian Contemporary station with several competitors in the market.

WBAP's rise back into the top 10 is pretty remarkable too considering how far they had fallen. It's good to see a true AM station with no FM simulcast do well.
Their top competitors in the "News/Talk" format have no signs of life. It is surprising to see KLIF-AM above KSKY-AM for the first time in years.
The folks at Salem need to devote some attention to promoting KSKY and do it in a way that actually tells listeners to go to 660AM. The one billboard campaign they had for Mark Davis years ago was pathetic because it didn't highlight the frequency in any way that would cause listeners to flip the dial to 660AM.

North Texas Public Broadcasting has to be pleased with the sudden rise of KKXT. It's more than doubled its audience since May. It's stream is doing fairly well too.
To me one of the biggest surprises is the complete collapse of The Ticket's 12+ ratings. It wasn't long ago they were drawing 3s. Now they appear to be stuck in the mid 1s. I know that's not the rating they care about, but it still has to be a cause for concern. Perhaps the start of the football season will help as more people want to talk Cowboys and college football. Falling behind KRLD-FM in the 12+ is not a huge surprise during baseball season, but it's still surprising to see after all the years The Ticket has dominated sports radio in this area.

Trump is killing talk radio just like he's killing the NRA. People are getting tired of conservative talkers justifying Sharpiegate and everything else indefensible that comes down the pike. They're getting tired of the clown show in general. (And I say that as a former member of the College Republicans in school in the 90s.)

Good on KXT for its numbers. People are finally starting to find it through word of mouth.

And Cowboys camp is starting to get a little long in the tooth for the Ticket. It's either talk about Rhyner eating at Habit Burger or Junior cycling up to Ojai. Granted, you can only talk so much about 90 players, 37 of which will not make the team.
