"Complicated" came out 20 years ago, It is a classic hit now under any defiinition. "Moves Like Jagger" is 12 years old, a borderline classic hit strictly going by age, but it obviously tests well enough with the older portion of the demo WOGL is looking to reach that it's safe to play.

Unless McDonald’s has no business serving hamburgers because, you know, they should stop trying to replicate Burger King.
I'm more surprised that WOGL isn't playing something like "This Love" or "She Will Be Loved" or some older Maroon 5 before getting to "Moves Like Jagger"
Its a classic hits station it has no business going past the 90s. Levae Maroon 5 for sister station WBEB
Classic hits' audience is a moving target. The most recent '90s hits, those that peaked in 1999, are now 23 years old, which means the 22-year-olds who liked them as currents are now 45. Why would you want to refuse to play more recent songs? Your under-45 audience wants to hear them and your advertisers want to sell them stuff.
If you're going to play Maroon 5, their most-played gold is Jagger.
You have multiple formats playing Kate Bush, including WOGL. What's the rule there?

Um, no. That’s not remotely how this works. Really, it’s not.
Correct, I was pointing out that the back and forth between WOGL/Ben taking the lead between the two seems to have cooled down with BEN dropping pretty substantially since WOGL changed things around. From what I can see WOGL has clearly pulled ahead even though they were a bit off last month.
Can you picture what would happen if stations were run by vocal posters on this board?
and by vocal I don't mean the ones that say "Hey I like this but its understandable why that's happening."
By vocal I mean posters who say things like "You have no business XYZ" or "Add more alt music from the '90s" or "Hot AC for the win on 106.1" or "96.5 should be another classic rock or country station."
For me, I think programming/research would be a very interesting study, simply to find out why and how it is these stations do what they do and succeed.
That doesn't just include the music though, that goes further then that, like the audience and this markit.
And really, rather than saying XYZ station has no right playing this or that, why not find a station that doesn't play this or that? this is the internet... Just saying!
You could probably even find an OTA station streaming somewhere!

Your comparing apples to orange s CHR stations play what’s on the charts. Classic Hits mainly play a mixture of 70s 80s and 90s hits
Not true. The Kate Bush song is being played on multiple formats without regard to when it was recorded. WOGL isn't playing it because it's from the 80s. They're playing it because it's topical and popular now. Same thing with WIOQ. In point of fact, the Kate Bush song was never previously played on WOGL.
The single principal reason why they play any song is that research indicated that their listeners want to hear it. They apparently don't want to hear the other songs you mention.
Ummmm...you sure about that? You know the classic hits audience is shifting and those songs you mentioned are now in the format’s prime demos, right?
Because that's back when they were still trying to be a credible alternative rock band, rather than full-on pandering to soccer moms.
Same thing with Train -- I bet WOGL will play "Hey, Soul Sister" (if they haven't already!), but not "Drops of Jupiter".
That entirely depends on the audience. It isn’t what the band did or didn’t want to be, needless knocks at “soccer moms” aside. If Drops of Jupiter tests well, would you or would you not play it?
Moses did not come down from Mount Nielsen with an engraved tablet stating thou shalt not play songs recorded after 1999. Congress didn’t pass a law that defines classic hits.
The audience dictates it via testing. They are perfectly allowed to stretch beyond the end of the 90s. Seriously.
BTW Maroon 5 is not the only 2000s song being played on WOGL. It's also not the only song that it shares with other stations. The thing that makes WOGL different, and the reason why people listen, is because of the overall presentation. The fact that they combine 80s, 90s, and 2000s, AND they have personalities. WBEN may play some of the same songs, but they don't have any personalities. So when people get hung up on one song, they're missing the big picture.
The equivalent channels on SiriusXM play both. I don't see why a terrestrial FM wouldn't. They're both alt-lite, soccer mom songs.
Move like jagger is to recent of a song to be played on a classic hits station. It’s outside the realms of the format

Says who? Who is this format czar you speak of?
Based on that, Kate Bush is NEWER than Maroon 5. It's a current hit. They shouldn't play current hits, according to you.
