August Ratings

It’s like hearing a station like KSTP-FM in Minneapolis playing a 80s culture club song when there format is hot AC and their slogan is todays variety. The only reason running up that hill is being played on hot ac stations is because it’s on the charts

Says who? Who is this format czar you speak of?

Based on that, Kate Bush is NEWER than Maroon 5. It's a current hit. They shouldn't play current hits, according to you.
Except that running up that hill was released in 1985 which qualifies it as a classic hit. Move like Jagger was 2011

It’s actually nothing like that.

"Complicated" came out 20 years ago, It is a classic hit now under any defiinition. "Moves Like Jagger" is 12 years old, a borderline classic hit strictly going by age, but it obviously tests well enough with the older portion of the demo WOGL is looking to reach that it's safe to play.
I consider classic hits to be songs that are at least 20 years old. We will probably be hearing beyonce on classic hits stations a decade from now

No, it is played because it researches well with their listeners.

And if we do hear Beyoncé in a decade or less, so what?

You can consider whatever you want. When you’re programming classic hits, you can exclude songs for whatever artificial reason you desire. Good luck getting positive results, but have at it.

i have no problem with it. The classic hits format is going to continue to evolve

Doesn’t matter. If they want to play some 80s because it tests well, then they’ll play it! Hot AC has somewhat fluctuated throughout its history, and even more so now, regardless of slogan.

Your missing my point. Move like jagger is to recent of a song to be played on a classic hits station. WOGL musically is on point 99% of the time. But they should leave that 2010's pop to WBEB and WTDY
Nothing says that multiple stations in a cluster can't share some songs between them.

At my first job as an intern in a cluster of 5 stations two of them played 50% the same songs. Both did amazingly well in ratings in a 33 full signal market.

Oh, that was back in 1963!

Your comparing apples to orange s CHR stations play what’s on the charts. Classic Hits mainly play a mixture of 70s 80s and 90s hits
Classic hits stations used to play primarily 60s and 70s music. That’s not the case anymore as demographics shift and change. 2000s is now classic hits.

It's not as unusual as you think as WKTU still plays some 80s hits, if only on a few occasions. And the "Social Radio" Hot ACs in Canada (CKPK, CKNO, etc.) play songs as far back as the 70s, even. I believe CHUM-FM also throws in some 80s from time to time.

Perhaps the 80s sound still endures.

No one is missing anything. Songs straddle formats because audiences are fluid. It is not remotely too recent a song and if your target audience embraces it as validated by research (making the assumption here that is what their data shows) then you play it. If it flows out of, let’s say, Don’t Stop Believing (to pick an 80s staple), great. If the texture works musically, great. The audience is not creating some bizarre artificial year cutoff like you seem to be.
