It depends. We did actual research as part of my degree. But that's differs a BS from a BA.
How long has it been since 101.1 played anything from the likes of Mantovani and Percy Faith?
Also why would WOGL be more "geriatric" than B101, considering 101.1's longtime history with easy listening and 98.1 being the home of Hot Hits during the 80s?
Just because something happens to one station doesn’t mean it happens to another. B101 did a very good job of rebranding itself. No one cares one iota about the old EZ listening days. They continually evolved the music.
I suppose it's been approximately 260 days since they played Percy Faith. 🤣🎅🏻🤣🎄🤣
BTW: This thread was somehow equal parts frustrating, concerning, informative, and hilarious.
Remember they won’t flip as early as they did last year that only happened because of 106.1 the breeze

It's muggy as hell outside and I think there are a couple more 90º days in our future, so I welcome this frosty topic.
It's not easy to argue, one way or the other, how much The Breeze had to do with B101's flip date last year...but they literally flipped three hours after 106.1 (and 99.5) so I can easily lean toward "Yeah, that coulda had something to do with it."
However, B's been pretty consistent with their flip date in recent years. In both 2020 and 2021, they flipped exactly two weeks before Thanksgiving Day. And IIRC, those dates coincided nicely with the start of the December book. In 2022, that book starts on November 10, which just happens to be--wait for it--exactly two weeks before Thanksgiving Day. If I had to place a bet, I'd put my money on November 10.
That having been said, if The Breeze were still around, I kinda suspect they would have gone on November 3 or 4, and that would test out the theory about B's potential reaction--but alas, we shall never know! 🤣

WOGL is actually sounding how a classic hits station is supposed to sound i havent heard Maroon 5 in a while good. Leave that to WBEB
They did JUST play Complicated from 2002, and recently played Blink 182's "All The Small Things" from 1999.
Continually adjusting to keep up with the core demographic, like they should be.

You, your very own self, in this very thread, said that WOGL should not be playing "Complicated." You can't have it both ways.
And BTW: Maroon 5 has seven songs from 10+ years ago that landed in the top 40--three of which were in the top 10, and one of which peaked at #1. "Moves Like Jagger," which also peaked at #1, had the nerve to be released 11 years ago. At any rate, if any song that band (or any other band) has ever released tests well with the target demographic (which, BTW, you might not be part of), WOGL has every reason in the world to put it in rotation.
WOGL also just played "The Middle" by Jimmy Eat World from 2001.

Who wrote the rule book on how any format should sound.
In each market, formats are determined based on the local population characteristics (race, ethnicity, average age, etc), the competitive array and the goals of each station's owners.
The individual songs are, at any good station, determined by audience research.
And many of the format names are very broad and inclusive.
So compare the playlist of a classic hits station in Miami with one in Calgary and you can see how the market and the audience determine the overall blend and the specific songs.
I have worked at a grand total of one radio station, which happened back in 1994-95. It was a Top 40 station and WOGL (especially since their recent library refresh) is playing soooooooooooo many of our songs. Every time I hear one, I think, 'Welp, you're one day closer to death.'
And then, I guess I think, 'It's been nearly three decades! What have I even done with my life?!' Classic Hits radio is giving me an existential crisis. 🤣🤣🤣
Oldies are older now than they used to be. It's the same thing with cars. If you drove a car from the 1950s in the 1970s, you were a weirdo for keeping that old relic. Today if you drive a 20-year-old car, nobody bats an eye.
And the cars of the 80s qualify for the “classic” license plates.
