August Ratings

Appears that WSB/WSBB is ramping up as we get closer to the election, Fish is back now that school is back, and iHeart and Star 94 still can't figure things out.

The was posting recently that Star was doing well in some female demos.

iHeart has a new operations person. Give it till the new year for any large ratings movement.

Wow, iHeart really does need some help. They put The Beat on the big 96.1 signal, and it hasn't shown signs of doing anything. Meanwhile, they moved Power to a signal that's not really conducive to a mass appeal CHR, and it earned a .4% share for the second straight month. And New Country 101-5 is starting to pull away from 94.9 The Bull.

Putting Bobby Bones in mornings on The Bull gave the show an affiliate in the #7 radio market. But it doesn't seem to be helping iHeart Atlanta. Just my opinion but while Bones is probably making millions, I feel the 101.5 morning show has more talent than the Bobby Bones Show. Personally, I feel New Country 101-5 has better talent in mornings and afternoons while The Bull takes middays with Angie Ward. Otis at night on The Bull (and afternoons on Power) is a superior talent but plays to small audiences.

Time to flip 96.1 and 105.3 back to where they were before. 105.7 must bill really well to keep that station alive with its current ratings. I would think 105.7 would be a good option to put Power on if they got rid of or moved Z. I know you have to give Atlanta clearance for Seacrest somewhere. Another option I thought they might go to give Seacrest Atlanta clearance is to make the CHR format of Power go Hot AC. I know that failed at Star before they went Rhythmic AC. I still listen to Power more than Q even though it is on a terrible signal now. Q still plays too many dance mixes throughout the day. Power sticks to the music without all the unnecessary DJ alterations of the current top 40 chart.

It would be expensive, They could try a local morning show on the Bull again. As long as Bobby Bones' commerciald air in the ATL the national buyers shouldn't care. But would there be enough room for the increased Atlanta commercials to support the talent cost and Bones's commetcials without hampering the morning show with "too many commercials". Then trying to find talent to beat 101.5's morning show is another issue.

It seems like everyone in ATL (except Cumulus) thinks they HAVE to have an urban presence.

Related, is V-103 doing so much poorly vs. historically because of the competition, or is it the whole issue with kludgy-sounding radio edits that the streamers don't have to worry about?

I think they should erase Power completely. I don’t think it will sustain whatever signal they put it on. I think it’s a waste of a format and signal.

Wow, imagine putting a Adult Hits/AC on the 96.1 dial. Yeah it will do MUUCH better.

The station is clearing "national" ads. Don't know if the "demo difference" would be acceptable to the national buyers.

What does that mean? LOL
Jubal and Ryan Seacrest are syndicated by iHeartRadio. A certain number of commercials and hour are played on every station that carries the show. These are advertisers that get "national exposure" to that certain age group or sex . (P1). An 18 or 20 year old might be in the market for auto insurance where as their parents might be looking for home owners insurance bundled with auto insurance.

Successfull commercial radio broadcasters are really "narrowcasters", serving a relatively narrow group of the listening audience. It could be age, sex, taste in music, news, or political talk. Use to be called "P1" listeners". The goal is to have an attractive P1 that advertisers are willing to spend money to reach.

This tells it all. iHeart’s Jingle Ball wont be a part of POWER this year. Instead, 96.1 THE BEAT is hosting and I believe its the first time an iHeart Urban has been a part of the concert series

Not sure if POWER will survive Atlanta???
