Augusta pirate @ 99.9 makes the news

Since no one else seems to have mentioned this... There's a story on channel 12's website about a pirate in Augusta at 99.9 playing profane rap music and "allegedly-reportedly" giving gang-related shout-outs.

Link: Only On 12: Pirate radio station admits it's not legit
Video: http://news12archives.com/watch?v=3158

The video shows the house and even a 2-bay (stolen) antenna above the house. Call me crazy (everyone else does) but if I were a pirate radio DJ I wouldn't be talkin' trash to the teeveenewz folks. Especially when the FCC and the local sheriff are investigating!

Whatever happened to the good ole days when the pirates only operated at odd hours and changed their locations from time to time? These guys are so brazen they deserve to get caught. ;D

My first reaction was that this is a publicity stunt for a local rap or hip-hop act, and this may well be the case. If so, someone either received some really bad advice, or else disregarded whatever good advice he got.

If the station is so easy to find, the FCC may be waiting for the local LEOs to act since the locals would be more likely to actually put somebody behind bars on the theft charges -- unless, of course, Federal government property has been stolen. This will be a neat case to watch.

Like you, I always thought a big part of being a pirate was being able to hit the air, shut it down and relocate before the DF trucks could triangulate on you. Kids today are just plain lazy, and they have no respect for tradition, I suppose :)

You forgot completely stupid. I never thought I'd grow up to the point of saying this, but kids have no respect, and pretty much no morals. They think they're immortal and will try to prove it to you that they are.

I was being facetious ... sort of. But you're right about kids today being stupid. This guy probably had no clue about his station being illegal until the reporterette called him, and he probably couldn't tell you what FCC stands for -- much less anything about what it does. Chalk up another victory to public education.

You're right about that. Oh, and I know you were being facetious, but you pointed out a sad truth, and I wanted to play off of that. I wish I was joking, but the big joke is that it seems that the dumb are out-populating the intelligent. Oh well, as Mama always said "if sense was so dang common, then we'd all have it!" ;D
