Aunt Eloise

I've heard a lot of people say that the Aunt Eloise character on WTQR has pretty much played out. Looks like CC is going to keep her alive. The latest TV spots are pretty good, and totally focused on Aunt Eloise and Brother Bill. They even seem to have taken precedence over the music! That might not be the wisest thing....but then it IS CC.

And...the Walf spots certainly aren't any better...very little about the music, but a lot about howling! Who cares!

Can't help but wonder, is this essentially the same "Aunt Eloise" character that the late Paul Franklin created? If so, how incredibly cheap!

First, it was not Big Paul who created Eloise. Aunt Eloise worked with Dale (forget his last name) in the 1980s and has been a continuing part of the WTQR morning show since Paul's death.

Dale Mitchell....however the character was created when T.Y was in Memphis is the 70's.

Never said Dale "created" Aunt Eloise - just that Paul did not.

The demise of that character has been predicted for years - but she seems to hang on. It is encouraging to see CC put some money behind the show. You know the old saying, as goes the morning, so goes the rest of the day!

Eloise is from time to time showing her age - but for the most part is pretty solid in the minds of the listener.

??? Don't recall a "T.Y."? My knowledge tells me Eloise is former "PAMS" man Toby Arnold!

Sorry, Big Ape - Not Toby Arnold. TY is correct. Yes, Aunt Eloise is a woman!

It is the official line and it is true! If anyone asked "Is Aunt Eloise a man?" The truthful answer is NO, Aunt Eloise is a woman. The character, Aunt Eloise, is truly a woman.

It is TY, not Toby Arnold.

Sorry Xtalker, I stand on the Toby Arnold. I've been around "many moons" and spent many hours in Memphis Studios of the Old Pepper Tanner, William B Tanner, PAMS, JAMS, TM etc...One thing for sure...Eloise ain't no "Trilla Hart" (If you old timers remember her!)

I stand corrected, X-Talker. Aunt Eloise is definitely a woman! ;)

Where did this "Bit of Wisdom" come from all of a sudden??

Go to Sheila's Lounge in Clemmons after 11 am or so and see if anyone named Toby Arnold answers.....

This thread just reminded me how much I miss Big Paul. He was great radio talent but
more importantly just a genuinely nice, kind human being.

You got that right. Big Paul was one of a kind. I can never forget that night, hearing the news which was prefaced with those dreaded words..."A Local Radio Personality..." Upon hearing these words, I always think..."great what did some lamo do to be referred to as 'Local Radio Personality'. In the next sentance, I heard that horrible news, and realized that it was not the typical story of a 'local radio personailty'.

Paul Franklin, you are missed by many. God bless old friend.

Big Ape, you are wrong. It is not Toby Arnold. I worked with Aunt Eloise and her various partners for close to ten years - so I know what I am talking about! Sorry, but your are just plain wrong. It is Toby, but Arnold is NOT the last name!
