Anybody know who is carrying Radio Australia programming on 540 KHz in the NW USA or Western Canada? I heard it this morning from 4 to 4:30 AM MST, in Salt Lake City.

CBC (which uses 540 in Saskatchewan) runs programming from other countries in their overnights....likely CBK is what you heard.

According to http://www.cbc.ca/programguide/daily/2011/06/27/cbc_radio_one/, a Radio Australia program is indeed on CBC Radio 1's 540Khz Saskatchewan transmitter between 4 and 5am CST. (which I presume is the same as MDT this time of year? -- Saskatchewan doesn't observe DST)

There's another Australian program on between 2:30 and 3am.

Programs from the BBC, Radio Nederlands, and Deutsche Welle (all in English) are also carried between 1 and 6 am.

Note also that many NPR stations here in the U.S. relay the BBC overnight -- and there are more than you might think on AM. I know 640 in Ames, Iowa has fooled me a few times!

Thanks for the link...I didn't see a Program Schedule under the local stations, and didn't look under the national page.
I need to start listening in more on those "sign-on shift" trips to work (yawn). ;D
