AUSTIN ARBITRON DECEMBER PPM

dallasboyz said:
December PPM is almost useless. Listening isnt normal patterns because of holiday. and many air talent take weeks off.

thats why its considered its own "holiday book".

The "December" book does not inlude the week where Christmas falls and the 6 days after. Those are the weeks most often taken by talent, so the December book is not affeccted by talent vacations.

my fault.

I posted 2 different thoughts in this thread.

december book and holiday book are 2 different books.

david, you dont know half as much as you like to think you do, but you were right on this occasion

Perhaps you are thinking about your horribly wrong statements about pre-currency PPM data and its eventual release following isssuance of the first currency month? Keywords: pot, kettle, black.

If they fell from first to second place, it's a slide ... regardless of whether their numbers are up, Fred.

Were it a commercial station, that would by no standard be a "slide" since rank does not determine rates. Rates are based (besides issues such as supply and demand) on the average audience size in the time period an advertiser might run a campaign.

Getting out of Austin for an example, if another station's average audience size (AQH persons) does not change in the period when KODA reaps huge shares with its Christmas music, even if that other station moves down by a rank position, the ad rates it charges don't change. Since the KUT shares went up, that means AQH persons went up, so the station made a climb, not a slide.

I'm talking purely about ranking. I know, as do most folks on here, that higher ratings mean more money. But ... from a pride standpoint, saying "We're No. 2" isn't quite as pleasing. You don't hear many (if any) promos touting the fact a station is "Arbitron rated No. 2." Really it's just a difference in the way folks view things on here. Half empty, half full ...

I recall years back Letterman poking fun at Leno's "Number 1 in New York" billboard in Times Square with his only nearly identical "Number 3 in New York" poster. When life hands you a lemon...
