Austin BMP stations, 1 year later

Well, part of "The Horn"'s problem is that its signal is problematic north of 2222. Too bad, since there's some interesting programming there.

According to the article, The Horn is BMP's most profitable local station (also the most interesting in my opinion).

Outside of Dave Ramsey, The Big Talker is struggling, I wonder if they have considered swapping signals, putting The Horn on the much stronger 98.9.

IIRC 104.9 is a class A licensed to Bee Cave so it needs to put a signal over its COL. Plus there's a 104.9 to the north that's upgrading to move into Waco. So there's little possibility the signal will improve to the north.

It makes sense that the Horn would be their most profitable station since sports radio has an insanely high power ratio and doesn't need ratings to sell. I can't imagine them putting the sports programming on 98.9 since it's making money where it is. What else could they do with 104.9 that would make them money? It doesn't seem like anything else on that stick has ever made a dime!

Seeing that Sports format makes money for BMP. I would say 104.9 stays the same. Swapping 92.5 with 98.9 would make more since. A better move because 92.5 in San Antonio has the same right wing talk format. Listeners wouldn't have to change the frequency. It would be like the late 80s when you could listen to 93Q in Houston drive to San Antonio and listen to Power 93.

Is that the one from Giddings that keeps interfering when the skip is in? If so, it sounds like reception of 104.9 north of central Austin is about to get worse, not better.

Actually, it would not. The True Oldies audience is older than dirt. Everything about the format, presentation and commercial appeal is old. Lots of older folks listen to the radio, which is why they are doing decently in the 6+ with the lousy signal, but that format is not a big money maker. Side note: 3 out of the last 4 songs have been from the 60s. Oldies seems like a good format for some of the left out AMs that are dying in every market.

Those two signals don't even come close to overlapping and even if they did, they are owned by different companies in two distinct markets. It would not be a factor in a programming decision in any possible way.
