Austin Davis and Kerry Mathieson

It was reported in today’s Worcester Telegram & Gazette that Austin Davis and Kerry Mathieson, who were let go from Worcester’s top rated morning show at WSRS-FM in August, have found new jobs. They have both joined Public Radio station WICN-FM 90.5 in Worcester. Kerry will be the director of corporate development and Austin is the new morning host of “A Tasteful Blend” at New England’s Jazz and Folk station - http://www.wicn.org/.

Good to hear...I used to listen to Austin on the way to school with my mother way back when it was "Austin of Boston" in the morning on Oldies 103, always a class act on the air...

I certainly remember that, and I also remember the other "Austin of Boston" who was on WVBF 105.7 in the early 70's.

That's too bad. Austin's a pro with a great set of pipes. He belongs at a real radio station.

Maybe he finally got tired of the commercial radio hype and grind, and wanted to do something different where he has a little creative artistic freedom, and can play a variety of music. I'd say that for him personally, it's probably a great move.

WUMB's morning drive Dick Pleasants and afternoon drive Dave Palmater have both done commercial radio (Pleasants was morning man on WBOS at one point), but they would both rather play folk music on WUMB, and they both have some of the best "pipes" in Boston.

Jumping over to professional non-comm or public radio is not all that uncommon for some hosts who want to get off of the commercial radio merry-go-round.
