Austin Davis

Hank Stolz announced this morning on WTAG that Austin Davis died suddenly over the weekend. Austin worked mornings for many years on sister station WSRS and prior to that Oldies 103.3. He had no other details at this time.

Just heard myself. So sad and only 54 years old. I had heard it had been a very difficult year for him and his family. My prayers and thoughts for his wife Grace and rest of his family.

I am shocked. I worked with him in 1974-75 when he was Program Director of WTXL West Springfield. We were doing progressive rock on AM and Malcolm had just come up from WBAB on Long Island. The last time I spoke with him was when he was on the air at WMRQ, the predecessor of WODS.I had wanted to get in touch with him after he lost his WSRS gig, but never quite knew how to contact him. Sadly, I never will now.I'm so so sorry to hear about his passing. Malcolm was one of the nicest guys I ever worked with in radio.Paul

And you're still a [*******] because after arguing with me about it, you've just posted an article that proves me right and you wrong, AGAINBehold:Soon after Mr. Davis moved to Ashland and started at WMRQ, it changed its format to oldies and its name to WODS. He took the helm as the first morning show host for the new station and soon became known as ``Austin of Boston" He was credited with bringing Oldies 103.3 to the top in the Boston radio market.Dont question me about radio Joe, or what I listen to, I know more about this subject than any cable access clown will ever know. Then again you also thought Mick Jagger wrote "satisfaction" which you posted here as well............credible rock journalist?................. Learn to post facts and not your opinions passed off as fact. Dont respond, you'll only look more retarded.[EDIT*=name calling]

Austin in Boston. Why do you have to resort to name-calling? Any good shrink (and many have been on my show, but it is clear had they been on the Nik Carter show you would've been hauled off in a straight jacket)...any good shrink would see you have become obsessive and crazy on these threads. My responses are short & funny, yours are long and rambling attacks which attempt to bolster your "significance." To quote Oedipus - Nik Carter "Is irrelevant."Walk around Boston - now that you've wrecked a thread on a d.j. that passed away (how cruel) - and see if anyone stops you in the street from your Channel 38 "appearances".More people recognize public access hosts (plural) than Nik Carter. But your incessant need to be heard has Oedi tearing out his hair club for men. You make him look like an imbecile.Gee, Nik, who wrote "Satisfaction" - we'll make it multiple choice for you:Wilbert HarrisonAretha FranklinOtis ReddingThe Partridge FamilyFirst you have no idea who Wilbert Harrison is. Have you no clue about great African American artists? Then you have the audacity to teach us your revisionist history...oh, we get it - Nik Carter wroteSatisfaction!NIK WRITES:. Then again you also thought Mick Jagger wrote "satisfaction" which you posted here as wellhttp://allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=10:wnd9kezt7q7cNot only am I a more informed disc jockey, Nikky - I managed their producerhttp://myspace.com/producerjimmymillerWho wrote Satisfaction? According to Nik Carter it wasn't Jagger/Richards. Amazing. They should take your typewriter away Nik - that's even worse than your "Kansas City" faux pas

Joe, takee your meds, seriously: This is not funny anymore. Get help. Again you dish it out yet cannot take it. How many names have you called various people myself included on this board? over and over again?. YOU cant take the heat so stay out of the kitchen.

wow i didn't know this so sad years later

Interesting. I was thinking of "Austin of Boston" who was the morning man when the oldies format launched on this day of the station's demise. Austin did it straight without much schtick because back then, it was all about the music. We got news, traffic, weather, and oldies with Austin's great baritone radio voice.

Somewhere up in heaven, he shed a tear today when the WODS he knew (somewhat) went away. He was a great radio guy.
