The only low powers I get with a watchable picture at my home in far South Austin are the channel 20 Azteca analog and the Univision digital on 31. I'm 10 miles from the Westlake tower farm the crow flies.

LIN should consider putting KBVO (even in SD) on a subchannel of KNVA or KXAN.

How well does the KBVO-CD 51 translator cover Austin? Also, is the translator mapped to 14.1 or 51.1 OTA?

It doesn't.

I'm at Steck and MoPac, a few miles north of the towers, with an outside antenna. I don't see a hint of it. KTFO blares in here.

Yea, that's not too dissimilar from their old analog map....and that was quite a work of fiction! ;)

Didn't they have an application in for a LP station here, actually IN Austin?

I get a solid digital lock on KCWX at my house in South Austin where the analog was barely watchable. But my antenna does need to be dead on to lock. Not sure what the status is on their in-town LD translator. The FCC query site still lists it as APP. But if they're anything like KBVO's translator on 51 I don't give it much hope.

I never understood why KCWX applied for an LD translator in Austin. Wouldn't that be a conflict with KBVO in this market for the MyNet programming?

they might be thinking of putting other type's of programming on low power channel. i don't know if they can do put different programs on. i believe the owner's of kcwx is from austin, that owned and operated kvc 13 before sailing it to ktbc.

If you're referring to the channel 8 application, it's a Replacement Translator. Assuming it's granted, the FCC will require them to simulcast their main transmitter -- they can't use it for different programming.

i agree with krmd, it would be a conflict with kbvo and why would they want to have a translator in austin. it does makes sense if they only had one translator application for san antonio only. not two translators applications.

KCWX's coverage map suggests they cover both Austin and SA. But you need to point your antenna right at them. I know when I do that I lose my other locals. From where I sit, KCWX is 90 degrees to the left of the Westlake tower farm.

You could use two antennas (e.g., an AntennaCraft Y5-2-6 pointed at KCWX and a Channel Master 20xx or 4228 pointed at the other stations), and combine them with a VHF Lo-Hi combiner. (The combiner's VHF-Hi side will also pass UHF signals.)

A transmitter on channel 8, right next door to KTBC on channel 7? Is that really a good idea?
