Austin radio hiring standards

Since Austin has a number of Colleges that offer programs in communications is it difficult for outsiders with no degree but experience to find employment at a radio station in the market? Even if it is just a pt position? Or, do the educated University graduates get top priority? Will an Austin transplant lacking educational credentials be destined for KOOP radio only?

What kind of radio job are you looking for?

No! College students do not get special attention when applying for work in Austin. Mail your resume, demo cd/mp3, fill out an application...

If you good...you will get a job when a position is open

Good Luck

You don't know Austin. KOOP has some of the most educated people on the dial. They just march to a different drum and prefer the KO-OP instead of the corporate.

They just march to a different drum and prefer the KO-OP instead of the corporate TRANSLATION - 'They prefer to do it for free instead of getting paid since they are so smart'

They're smart enough to know the only way they can do the kind of radio they want to do is on KO-OP, and smart enough not to expect to make a living from broadcasting. Not everything is motivated by money.

Well, as much as I love Austin I just don't have the cash. I could get out there. I could even get a spot to live. But, if I did'nt find work I'd be with that Leslie transvestite on Congress. It's too big a risk although I really want to do it. I screwed up a move a few years ago and my life has fallen apart ever since. I just don't know anymore. My life is the John Lennon song, watching the wheels. That song really describes my life.

What are you talents? Are you a jock, News reporter, Anchor, etc.?

I would not move to Austin unless you had a job waiting or had a way to sustain.

Im mostly a jock, but I also have done news. I've decided that Im going to visit soon. I have a craving to get back there. Where is Alex Jones's studio? I do not agree with every conspiracy theory but some I think are valid. I'd love to meet him.
