Austin Ratings

There hasn't really been any discussion of the recent Austin ratings here. I was wondering what the general take is on it.

Personally I only have two questions. 1) What the heck happened to KASE? I notice this week they have begun using "Bob"-like liners. I had thought that Bob's novelty would be wearing off by now but he is apparantly cutting into even the Country listener base now. 2) Why isn't Channel 102.3 working?

Let the discussion/debate/arguments begin!

Beats me since that's where my dial ends up most of the time as a listener. I usually only punch away when they either dip into the KGSR files or play one of the tunes I never could stand to begin with (see "Spill The Wine"...).

Plus, I don't want to be told I'm smarter because I listen to their station. :

Too bad, too, because they are really flying in the face of what *most* of the malcontents' complaints are about Clear Channel.

I think kase mest up, there not realy adding any new music, just playing most of the old stuff,, I think kvet is doing something right, look at how well Texas music works if it is programed correctly? I think KHFI plays way to much hiphop, of course 933 & 1043 are a complete waste of bandwidth. I think 94.7 could play more music at night, so can 101 X, 101 X should get rid of loveline move it over to 1370am. 102.3 well,, some of it is ok, but I think they should shift to 60's-70's maybe bring back that crowd. Some people still miss the oldies around. <P ID="signature">______________

I agree. I think that Channel 102.3 needs to stop trying so hard to be like KGSR and realize there is a nitch for straight classic rock in this town. Although KLBJ does mostly classic rock, it doesn't get most of the deeper cuts that 102.3 could. KGSR is unique in itself and isn't likely to be bothered by KPEZ's weak attempts. I think some tweaking closer to the OLD Z102.3 would be better.

Yes, 93.3 and 104.3 are completely wasted signals. Would love to see both stations dumped and oldies or some kind of pure rock station to take on KROX.

This had to be the worst book ever for KASE, but it looks like sister station KVET is where many of the KASE listeners migrated to.

Clear Channel left a big hole that LBJ snuggled right into. A look at the 12+ Arbs on allaccess.com for this last spring shows that. Even without looking at the target demos, it's obvious that a lot of Z listeners moved to KLBJ-FM. Someone obviously told me they'd be able to cash in on scraping away some fringe listeners from KGSR. Problem is, most KGSR listeners I know are pretty devoted.

On the plus side, I like the addition of what I call the "B-level cuts" (songs we're familiar with, but rarely get played) from the core artists and the Eric Johnons cuts, etc.

But Big Head Todd? Lyle Lovett? Jack Johnson? I don't think that's worth the 1 point of market share they gave up. To my ear, they've made some tweaks in the last few weeks and loaded up the top end of their playlist with more of the core classic rock material and throttled back on the AAA stuff. Guess we'll see what the summer numbers bring.

That's what I get for typing and referee'ing at the kids at the same time. :)
