Austin Ratings...

KFMK took a drop, KVET is back on top, any prodictions that Clear channel will do something new with KFMK? KHHL Still doing great. Bob ontop as well. Any more thoughts?

I dunno. CC has just spent some cash on TV adds for Jammin. I don't see them recovering though. Too bad too..Jammin used to be an awesome station when it was local!

i wonder sometimes, can i post the ratings from another website to this one that has all call letters, formats and who owns them? i been carefully not to copy any copyrighted material to any site. i all do is type in is the call letters and formats.

In is permissible to quote Arbitron ratings in limited circumstances.

Your question is a relevant one and now's as good time as any to clarify what is permissible.

If you want to break down every station by their RANKINGS, then that is allowable. You can even give the actual rating of a station or two for a demographic. What you cannot do is give a comprehensive list of the ratings broken down by station and demographic within a market.

Wholesale lifting of protected content from another website is a big no no. Fair use dictates that you can only quote a limited amount of content from a protected source. The smaller the size of the original source, the smaller your quote has to be. Whatever source you're quoting from, you need to make sure you cite who the source is. Too many people have forgotten the lessons in school about attributing your quotes.

If you're simply offering a list of call letters, formats and owners...then that's fine. What you can't do is break down the same thing and then plug in all the ratings for the market.

If you wish to discuss this in more detail or send me an example, then I'd be glad to go over it. You can PM me or use the "contact us" section at the top right hand of every page.

I appreciate the thought you've put into your post and the respect you have for other's intellectual property.

The clock is definitely ticking on Jammin. I am actually suprised that it has lasted this long. Jammin has consistently under-performed

I am not privy to the details of KLBJ's contracts with Premiere, but Austin would be an ideal place for Clear Channel to roll-out an fm newstalk station. This would be similar to what they did in Pittsburgh with WPGB-FM, which while relatively new and going up against the legendary KDKA, is doing amazingly well. Outside of KLBJ, there are not any viable AM stations that cover the whole market day and night. So if Clear Channel ever had the urge to newstalk in Austin this seems like the perfect place. It would also be a nice compliment to KVET.

Assuming they could wrestle Rush away from KLBJ and grab Hannity from KJCE (which would be trivial), it is hard to image that "FM NewsTalk 1059" would not bill more than 105.9 in it's current Jammin form right out of the gate.

Wasn't it reported that Clear Channel is possibly looking at selling one of it's station in the Austin market?

Well, while I can't see the Limbaugh program leaving KLBJ-AM any time soon, I can't agree more on the need for an FM talker here. Given the absolutely miserable performance of some of the FMs, it's stunning that it hasn't been tried yet.

And while I don't mean Air America, I really think that some kind of political balance will be necessary to make a go in the Austin market. After all, 1370 (now lagging behind Air America in Austin) has shown that 100% Rightist talk, with no local influence, is probably a non-starter.

And while KLBJ leans pretty hard right M-F, the weekends seem to be another matter altogether.

Clear Channel would never voluntarily sell one of their full-market signals unless they were getting out of the market completely. What has been talked about is Clear Channel being forced to sell one of their stations due to the recent FCC ownership rule change. The crux of the issue is if Clear Channel going private constitutes a "sell", as their current cluster was "grandfathered" in. My guess is that they will be able to keep them all, but if one was to go, it would be KPEZ.

The Coyote was AWFUL! I don't think that Clear Channel would make that kind of mistake. I can see a GOOD FM talker in town. Aren't Hannity and O'Reily available? Granted, I don't care for conservative radio, but those two are heavy hitters in town.

Back in the day, there was talk of an agreement between LBJ-S and AMFM/CC about not invading ones market. Meaning, no LBJ-S station would start up to compete with any AMFM/CC station. I remember this hitting the fan when LBJS flipped Lonestar to Mega. Everyone at CC was thinking they would take KPEZ to Hot talk and take Rush with them. Of course, this was over 5 years ago.

I would really be interested to see Jammin's 25-54 numbers. The last time Jammin had a stellar book was in the Fall of 99...when they had no PD! This was pre-Robin Flores.

If Clear Channel does flip a station to FM Talk or to anything else for that matter, it won't be KPEZ. They are pretty happy with the River format (the ratings breakdowns show some growth and promise). Plus its kind of a corporate pet project for the CC higher ups. I would love to see an FM newstalker in Austin or even a Hottalker (done right this time, not like that crap The Coyote). KFMK would be great for that.

I think Hot talk might work great on like HD-3 channel on KFMK, but not on the main, I wonder how much better they might do if they do a "flop" floping Spanish oldies to 105.9 and Jammin to 105.9 HD-2?
