Austin Ratings!

I think the next flip will be to a Top 40 format. Kiss FM is dominating FM, so it would be wise for Entercom or Emmis to cut into that a little bit to protect their other stations, similar to what happened in San Antonio with X106-7 and KZEP.

I would love to see a "Wild 94.7" or a "Mega 102.3," but I just don't see it happening, unfortunately. Entercom, Emmis, Clear Channel, etc., don't believe in taking risks.

Kiss is not "dominating" in that it is third 25-54 and, while #1 18-34, there are plenty of other stations with shares in the sales that are in the same vicinity.

The thing about CHR is that you can make pretty good revenues and profits if you are alone in the format, but when the shares, which tend to lean quite young, are fragmented, neither station usually does well.

Kiss is 10th in billing, with the top 3 stations, KASE, KLBJ(AM) and KKMJ about doubling the revenue and KLBJ FM, KAMX, KVET, KGSR, KXBT, the former Border Media regional station, and KRQX all ahead of it... who wants to split the revenue of a station that is just barely top 10 in billing (that is a statement, not a question).

David...what's your take on the diminished Spanish shares in Austin. I expected the UVN stations to benefit from the switch at Border, but it appears they've also declined, and the new Emmis entity has had minimal impact. Donde vas los Hispanos?

There were over 10 Spanish shares 25-54 in Winter, and KLZT showed very well, too.

Maybe someone will figure out what's working at KUT, and apply that to a commercial station.
I bet they could hire Larry Monroe, Paul Ray, or even the guy who does Eclecticos.

You know, I am starting to think you are obsessed with my posts. Good for you.

Getting back to Kiss FM, it's #1 right? It's got a 6.6 and it's beating every other FM station by about 2 points right?

No matter how you try and spin it, Kiss FM is dominating Austin radio right now.

I've never seen someone with so many inaccurate or wrong postings.

No, it is neither #1 (KUT is) and in 25-54, it is not #1.

"Dominating" is having a 30 or 40 share. Having a 5 or 5 share is not "dominating."

Wow! I guess I am also going to pile onto Mix 94.7.

When I frequented Austin a lot in late 90s/early 2000s, this was one of the best Hot AC/Modern ACs in the country. Granted the Modern AC product was better 10 years ago than it is today, but as I look at the yes.com playlist, I see a couple shocking items that begs the question:

Why is Kings of Leon "Use Somebody" and Black Eyed Peas "I Gotta Feeling" still the #1 and #3 most played songs of the week in May 2010? Don't get me wrong, I love both of those songs. But c'mon those songs were sooooo 6-9 months ago!

Why is Jason Derulo "In My Head" #11 and The Script "Breakeven" #99? Sounds like an unfocused Hot AC to me.

As hip/progressive as Austin is musically, if someone is still going to do Hot AC/Modern AC in that town, they sure are doing it the wrong way. How sad this station has fallen.
