Austin Station in the mid 1990's?

Hi, all brand new here. I've been reading some posts and find the chat fascinating, always loved radio. Has a personality TV just can't match.

Anyway, I moved to Austin in early 1995 and really loved the radio back then, thought it was better back in the day than now. I remember one station but for the life of me I can't remember the call letters.

I do remember it was an alternative type music station and it's slogan was 'Format shmormat, we play everything' and I think there was a dj named Sarah Trexler (sp. ?).

Anyone remember that one?

welcome aboard, sara trexler was a former dj of knnc knack 107.7 and then went over to 101x krox, which started in june 1995.

OK, I think I do remember that. Maybe in my old age I'm gettin fuzzy, but it seems 101x as you describe it had a different format than they do now...not as hard. Am I wrong about that?

you can also try other media sites to look up information, 100,000 watts.com which is a pay site, offers technical info. who owns the stations , map distance and format changes for a brief period of time., the starting date of broadcasting fcc site, the austin chronicle. this station originally from giddings tx, on 101.7 and moved to 101.5 and moved into buda-austin area. this station started broadcasting in austin in 1995. but it started in 1984 might have been religious in giddings.

Thanks, just enjoy reminiscing about Austin radio from the mid '90's.
Seemed a bit more 'authentic' back then...kind of miss the mad dudes over on KJFK, the sports station that carried 'One on One Sports', a less 'corporate' KGSR...was nice back then

you welcome, radio-info.com has the radio ratings and radio news information and post site, all-access, radio online, radio-tv business report. inside radio is a pay site.

Hey Captex...you were close but actually what happened was Sara Trexler and I moved from sister station WROX in Norfolk and signed on KROX (101X) in Austin 1n 1995. The station was originally licensed to Giddings when we signed it on. The jock we hired from K-Nack was Rachel Marisay.

Sara now lives in Charlotte and I am in San Antonio on 99.5 KISS and also host national rock countdown called LA Lloyd's Rock 30. www.rock30.com

Dick Dickerson, AKA Max Miller, was doing mornings on Z-102 and afternoons as Dribbling Dick.
He's been in Dallas since the turn of the century, doing traffic for KRLD.

Yes, Lloyd and I had great fun on Z-102 (KPEZ) during the last year and a half or so of the classic rock format. Did any of you ever catch the classic metal show we did on Saturday nights, the Masters of Metal, affectionately referred to as "Mom"? What a blast.

BTW "Format Schmormat" was always a KGSR tagline if I am recalling correctly.

Wasn't Rachel Marisay on 107.7 The Hawk"? I seem to remember hearing her on there I listened to "mom" a few times I wish both 107.7 "The Hawk" and Z102 were still around those were my favorite stations them and Oldies 103.5 I like 99.5 KISS alot better than 101x seems like they play harder rock another SA favorite I listen to on the internet is KONO 101.1

107.7 the hawk was one of my favorite station's to listen to . the only two dj i remember on the station was , von kaufman, a morning dj that bo chase replaced and they had a woman dj in the midday when the station first came on. and another woman dj at night for a short period of time. was steve o on the hawk at one time.

Well, 101x is not meant to be a hard rock station. I believe thats KLBJ's job. 101x is more of an independent alternative rock station, and also includes formal alternative songs.

I always found it odd that KROX would call itself ''independent'' when it's owned by one of the largest radio groups in the country. But the music format that is called ''independent.'' Now it makes sense.

The imaging was all on the amazing JJ Thomas...I loved the one he did with the old coot from the Whataburger commercials going, "Hats off to Mom"! That was the most ass kicking classic rock station I have ever heard.

I also liked The End too it was kinda like 106.9 The Point in Houston just wished they had it on a diffrent frequency and left The Hawk

Yeah I remember Sara Trexler, from the Sara and Jenn morning show on 101X in 1998. I joined the Army in 1999, and when I came back to Austin in 2002, they were gone. So now that we know Sara is working in Charlotte, what happened to Jenn?
