Austin TV anchor adds radio duties at 98.9

I have it on good authority that a longtime local TV newsie is joining the air staff at KXBT, The Big Talker. Actually it's me. I'll be joining my long-time friend and former on-air partner on his noontime gab fest, "The Sammy Allred Show." I might suggest a new name for the show, but I don't want to come across as pushy since I'm the new guy.

Sammy & I have been on the air in Austin for decades. We worked together back in the 80s at then-oldies KTXZ. I went into TV news and he stayed in radio. But later we would work together again when I would fill in for his partner, Bob Cole, from time to time at Country KVET in the 1990s.

It should be interesting doing an English language talk show and then turning around and anchoring Spanish language local news on Telemundo Austin.

Wish me luck.

Glad to hear you're keeping your day job, Fred.
Good luck to you and Sam.
When you can, give us the details on any schedule changes for the Sammy and Uncle Fred show.
If Sammy can go back on the radio, then I guess Fred CanTu. (Sorry, sounds better to say than to read.)

How many more months do you give this radio station? The station reminds me of 104-3 The Coyote, from back in 2004. I think this station will be a "La Ley" again by June.

Indeed, Fred, the best of luck. Slap Sammy around when he starts complaining about the concept of building a new airport, willya? ;D

Good luck! It'll be interesting...

It won't be La Ley anytime soon since BMP doesn't want to pay music royalties ...........

You know, every day since Feb 20th, I have been checking to see if someone commented on this particular post of mine, and after a month and a half, it finally happened!! Thank you, Tower Erection.
