Austin TV viewers miss game-winning Stanley Cup final goal

I smell auto pilot, and someone asleep at the switch. ??? I am sure the World Cup producers are thinking of non renewal, or as Ricky Ricardo famously stated "A whole lot of 'splain to do!"

Just try that here in Canada! If it's an ad for Molson, Labatt has an insane new revenue!!!  :D

It's a shame that they have to interrupt the commercials with game coverage.

Just imagine if that had happened during the Spurs-Heat final. In Texas, they have a history of stringing people up!

Austin isn't a traditional hockey hotbed, but is home to a minor-league team which is the Dallas Stars' farm club.

Plus, I suspect the Dallas Stars do have a fanbase across much, if not all, of Texas.

But imagine if this had happened at WMAQ-5 Chicago or WHDH-7 Boston??

It may have been overrated. It is difficult to see hockey goals on TV anyway, especially if the camera position isn't optimum for that particular shot. That's the reason it is replayed multiple times from other camera positions and even from inside the net (provided the goal hasn't shattered the lens).

What the viewers missed is that split-second when everybody realizes a goal has been scored and pandemonium erupts in the winning bench and in the stands (if the home team got the goal). Tough to tell who the Texan viewers were rooting for but I'll bet it wasn't the Bruins.

Kinda similar to the more familiar NASCAR faux pas where a major incident occurs while a commercial is playing. "And while we were away we've had a minor incident in the front straight where all 34 cars on the lead lap are now out of the race........but Danica is now third, one lap down". ;D

With the "picture-in-picture" NASCAR model, networks hope to not miss anything crucial going into breaks. Of course, NASCAR has no time-outs.

I think that pic-in-pic was started during the IndyCar telecasts and NAPCAR (tm) has been forced to use it too.

But NAPCAR (tm) does have time-outs.....lots of 'em. They are called "yellows". ;D
