Automating sports with SS32

It's March Madness time, and I'll try to make this as clear as possible.
Running SS32
Westwood(i guess now dial global)runs double headers, but they have a tone between the two games that are not a hard start, so a hard start is out for the second game.
Anyone know how to make this work.
(needless to say..there is still the problem of them starting the second game in say the 6th commercial position..which is a whole different problem)

For the double header in their log information, they don't mention a tone..but it's there.

Anyone have tips on how to automate these games???

Not sure about SS32 but some systems allow you to place an element in the log that looks for the tone. When the tone is received, the log will jump to that element.

westwood usually sends an end of game at the end of the first game in a double.

we use controlready, I just set it to accept that relay and restart the playlist. seamless to the listener then it acts on the relay at the end of the second game and switches back to regular programming.

There was a step by step document on how to do this with V5 SS32 and V6. WO still has it, but you may have to dig or call them to get a copy.

I have a problem with this as well with some of my systems. I tried to suggest that they use relay 4 for the "end of game" for the first game, and then Relay 3 for the end of the second game. They said they have plans for relay 4. I think the other reason is that they still use subaudible tones from the studios to drive the relays in the Max system. And most tone encoders/decoders will only do 25, 35 and combo, thus no way to fire a fourth relay. Not sure why so many networks are still using subaudibles to drive satellite relays. It's like 60's technology, you can hear them on the air, and it makes the start of the local breaks sound loose.

Easiest way I found around it was to use a seperate relay port on the satellite receiver for the first game. And on that port I don't utilize relay 3. Then at a point where were guaranteed to be in the second game, I have my automation switch to use the relays from the regular port which does utilize relay 3.

Some systems make it much easier. On Simain (believe it or not) you can just load a triggerset for the first game that ignores Max relay 3, then sometime after the log reaches the second game, have a command in there to load another triggerset that does include relay 3 on the Max.

Another way you can do this is if you have a Broadcast Tools switcher that has relays on it, you can wire Max relay 3 through one of those relays on the switcher and then have sequential commands on the log to turn that relay off on the first game and back on sometime before the end of the second game.

Easiest way is to have an old school thing known as a live operator. Sports is an unpredictable program in radio. Often prone to not running as a fixed routine.
