I'm looking for some information on very simple computer information. What are you using???...how much do you like it?........The system I'm looking for will be the simplest possible; I really only need to incorporate songs, some jingles and perhaps a top of the hour opportunity to record news....is there such an animal?I have an old computer, so I have no idea what it will hold, and I am not so sure I want to invest in expensive software either. I tried Directoire, which I'm working with, but having trouble dubbing songs to it.Any tips at all for an old-poster?Carl
______________

package that can be run, to make your small station sound great. Help?

I use Prophet's NexGen101 to produce an internet radio show, and it's extremely useful though pricey, starting at $499. It requires a PIII/800 and 512K memory to start. It's a simplifed version of what a lot of stations use. www.nexgen101.com. Some preparation of the audio cuts is required, and encoding in mp2, rather than mp3, is standard.

How about free? Sonicart from http://www.babyfishmouth.co.uk/ runs on most any PC. It is extremely simple to use, and has an intuitive overlap function which generally does a great job with segues of a variety of material. You can play back wavs and mp3's, which require no trimming or editing to sound great.

Sonicart is a very easy program to use and sounds good on the air. It will let you schedule your spots and shows. It was designed to run a community FM in England so it's been 'air tested' so to speak.

Another good free automation is Zararadio (www.zararadio.com). You can use either playlists or just load your list of mp3's. The program does events so you can schedule spots and shows. It will take either a satellite or Internet feed as well. For a free program, it's very powerful.

DirEttore is the best I have used so far. No voicetracking features yet, but the automation is VERY stable, and does awesome with hourly refreshes for playlists, and mixing is also great! I think it beats the others 10-1 that you guys were mentioning (which I tried to use both, confused I was!). http://www.mixtime.com is the site for DirEttore.
______________

I run Winamp, Sound Solution (with Sam Buca's preset), and WinAmp Radio Scheduler (WRS). It does a good job for me, is stable, and easy to make changes.
(HINT: run Wimamp 5.X only with Classic Skins.)

Zara radio is the most functional free system out there. It compares to raduga which starts at 699 to do what you need.

Hands down, the best automation program I have ever used, and I used them all...
...OTS DJ:

http://otsdj.com/

you can download the 30 day trial, $300 to buy, plus the additioanl scheduling and logging module.

I've ran WRS for nearly 18 months and it worked fairly well for me. I only stopped using it when my computer running the software had the extra duty of running my personal weather station added to it. Seems Winamp started to hang up after playing my jingles. I went over to Zara and it has worked like a champ for me. Even works with Sound Solution so I still have that nice sound to it. Oh yeah, the time announcements are a nice feature too.

For the life of me, I could not figure out Zara Radio. It seemed very weird in how it automated things, much prefered DirEttore.
______________

Your almost right. The OTS runs very flawlessly (if that's a word) but the problem is that it's not compatible with plug-ins. (Especially Sound solution.) And it doesn't have the automated rotations or voice tracking cappabilities like Station Playlist.
I own both, so I know. OTS is good, but it needs more flexibility and compatiblity.

I strongly suggest Zararadio its free and been running flawlessly for me the last month or so. www.zararadio.com click on Descargas on the left side. the site is spanish but after you download it you will get to choose either spanish or english at install. It will do everything you looking for.
