Automation systems

Hope you are all having a great weekend. I was just wondering does anyone know of a good automation system for part 15? I found a demo of simian and it rocks. It only lasts for a hour at a play though. I know that they all cost money, but anyone know of a stable one and a system that wont set me back 1000.00? Just hoping someone has some info... Jesse

Well, for someone to genuinely reccomend a system..

We kinda would have to know what you want to do with it!

Pick up a satelitte feed? Rebroadcast an internet stream over your FM signal? Schedule commercials, vocietracks?

Well Paul, I would like to have a system to schedule liners, play music for my LPFM.
or part 15 .. Sorry! I just want something lightweight that will segue, and will sound good, media player has done a decent job, but I want something more pro.

Normally, I'd tell you to buy Raduga. It works well and is VERY reliable. That said, I think you would be happy with Zara. Download it for free at http://www.zararadio.com/ You will not beat the price, and it is a well thought out program. They even have an active discussion forum for help.

Just wanted to take the time to thank those of you who responded to my original question...It was really nice of you all to come to my aid. I will have to admit Zararadio suits my needs just fine. Thank you all again.

Zara does a good job and is priced right.

I can't say the audio is supreme but its a great application.

I'm not using it on the air, but I didn't notice any particular audio problems when I was messing with it. I believe Zara uses Windows Media Player for its audio engine. (I could be wrong). You might want to make sure you have the latest version installed. Your computer's sound card can make a big difference too. I'd also recommend that you don't go any lower than 192 kbs for your mp3 files.

I have several apps and 2 good sounds cards.. pc is all set up properly.. I work in IT for a living actually... I have a high end system

I'm not sure exactly what it uses for an engine but there is a very clear different playing the exact same files in it verses any other apps.. again its satisfactory though
its a great app still

Stationplaylist is the best for the money you can voicetrack, set cues, use a external traffic system, RDS, use satellite feeds, and more. And support is great, I have retired two automation systems, and this one is the best by far, will do everything simian and nextgen does for alot less.

11 software's "jockey pro" is great. the LT version is $100 bucks and is basic but will go forever...I use the pro versions still only $500 and will do anything the big boys will do...join in and out of network, drop for timing, voicetrack....and as tight as you program it...there are a couple "tricks" i've learned with it that make it do things it wasn't necessarily designed to do...be happy to share that if you are interested.
want to hear it live, go to www.1650oldiesradio.com it's there live 24/7.

I would like to plug ZaraRadio.... which I am ironically listening to.

It seems to do a good job. You have to manually set up sweepers "as events..." but I set one up to play every two minutes and be willing to wait 2 minutes, which means there's always one ready to play between the songs. You can set up a top of hour, or have it play a random track at a certain time, which I use for heavy rotations 4 times an hour.

I even like the fact you can set a "sweeper" that will play over the intro of a song. I use it for Voicetracking.

Interesting!

I have Zara too, and am satisfied with it, except for getting my sweepers to play correctly. I had them right on the playlist along with the songs, which was fine going IN, but coming OUT, the song would stompcrunch over the end of the sweeper...sounded like a train wreck every few minutes. Now I know what to do to fix this (theoretically).

Thanks, Henry! :D

And yes, Zara's engine is Windows Media...I have version 9.

I run Zara exclusively as well, excellent program for the cost (free)!

To fix the sweeper problem you described, I ran my sweepers through Audacity (freeware) and added silent seconds before and after the sweeper, this way when Zara brings in the sweeper the mix is perfect and there is no stomping or overlapping of the two, the fade in Zara needs to be much better designed, but there are workarounds... so far so good.

Do any of the low cost or freeware programs accept RIFF? A few accept id3 tags but would like to keep things in .wav files with simple (number) file names.

Zara - good and bad

I will also plug Zara Radio, although I've been having problems adding audio feeds from sources other than my hard drive, such as TOH News and certain "webcasts". Anyone have suggestions? ??? I went from a WiFi connection to a dedicated one (Verizon FIOS), but that did not seem to make a difference.
