So, that is what Big Ape thinks of K-Love and his former Majic 94.1 listeners- Fruitcakes? I would love to see Gig Hilton come on here and comment on some of this. Big Ape has the right to think how he pleases, but it does really puzzle me. How does he think that he "bilked" money out of the "fruitcakes" at WTHZ? These were his words, not mine........

DJs - range from 30-60. Morning from 70-200K. PDs - 50-100K all depending on the station and the talent. Some contracts, some not. Just depends on the station. And don't forget, lots of stations voice track at a fraction of the cost.
Radio has not been a very lucrative career lately. Fewer jobs, those that have them have double the responsibility WITHOUT double the pay! A sad state for those of us who loved radio at one time.

On the other hand, if one is a morning AT in the Triad hauling down 200 grand, it would be hard for them to argue that radio is not still a lucrative career. Same for six-figure program directors or OMs.
Toss in six-figure AEs and DOS-and-MM types hauling down more than the sellers and the morning talent, and it could be said that radio may not be such a horrible industry, after all.
But the air-talent side of the industry has always been in a supply & demand crunch. There have always been too many people lusting after every on-air job... and too many will work for less than they should. The past 10-15 years' of consolidation, digital automation & mass use of network programming has just worsened what has always been...

It's a talent biz. Like singin' or dancin' or carrying a football. Some people just keep on trying, even when they get tackled for losses on every carry...
I don't think it's minimum wage but unless you're a big time morning talent, which is few and far between....who in this market is making any kind of money other than people in sales????? Unless you're a robot, it's not the greatest career choice.
Radio is in a horrendous state as is but The Triad has had an atom bomb dropped on its local programming. I work nights and you literally have NOTHING and I mean NOTHING to listen to driving around past 10pm. I think Coast 2 Coast is the only overnight live programming in the entire market. Half of the signals are practically turned off.
