Avi Nelson?! Did anyone else hear him with Ellen O'Brien?

Finn, where are you? Did you hear Avi Nelson on RKO today?! On the Saturday afternoon show, RKO had Avi on with Ellen O'Brien.
It was actually very very good! The last time I lived in Boston (I"m back) he was on local TV and I had forgotten all about him. They had this hysterical thing about how you rightly pronounce erudite. He's really smart, so it was funny.
So, opinions? Or is it only the RKO haters here today? I want more progressive talk and think Ellen does that well.

p.s. How is Eagen Braude longer show? I haven't had a chance to listen yet aside from a holiday Monday when I caught a bit. And does Finneran have his bride (co-host) yet? Inquiring minds want to know. Are those two shows competing?

Sorry, not much to offer here cuz didn't listen and didn't get it recorded.

Avi Nelson did solo fill-ins a while back (I think 7-10 pm shift before they moved Savage into the slot?), and you're right, he's quite smart and quick. However, he did a segment on grammar which struck me as utterly hilarious - it just seemed a little more NPR than WRKO. Kevin Whelan's been doing the show with O'Brien a lot lately. I got the impression that they are having a hard time getting someone to commit to a Saturday-only show.

I have not taken the time to listen to Eagan and Braude show yet, though Dan Kennnedy said nice things about it on http://medianation.blogspot.com/2007/03/chris-lydon-and-talk-radio.html.

Finneran is still dating, though Warren Tollman and Mariellen Burns have been on when I've been listening lately.

Re shows competing - according to folks on this board, WRKO's ratings were steady for the most recent book. Since Finneran was only on for one month in that time, the general consensus was that we had to wait for next book to know anything.... If I remember correctly, WRKK's were also steady.
 
Avi filled in for Howie during the Christmas holiday. RadioandRecords says Apr 4 is release day for the new
book (and yes, we only get to see the 12+ on that site)
 
Avi and Ellen were talking all over each other and the callers. Hard to listen to for a long period of time. Almost as bad as sports/talk radio. ::)
 
No way LucyLu I agree with your postings a lot but I didn't hear it. That drives me nuts! I laughed (like Finn) when I heard Mariellen with Ellen because it was funnier show than today but a lot of talking over each other. Not today.

Finn, I think SHE started the erudite conversation and I think she determined she wasn't wrong. Maybe it was him if he has a thing for grammar. I like Ellen for lots of New England/Boston references though and today was a ton of international news. But the callers were digging it and some of them sided with Ellen. I won't be able to catch it next week so maybe you can Finn.

More importantly, thank you for ratings update and I'll be curious to see how Finneran does.
 
Yes, I happen to catch Avi this morning, I reconized his voice instantly! Also, does anyone know why Mo Lauzier wasn't on RKO today at all? They were running rebroadcasts of Howie Carr.

Avi was just dreadful this week on WRKO last week of June 2007. Can't Julie or Jason get a new datebook and some new people in their lives?
 
I am to young to remeber Avi during the glory days of WITS but I hear he had quite a following as did Pat "pay me money to talk nice about your restaurant Whittless".

WTTK wanted Avi as a regular weekend fill in but he said he couldn't do it a couple of times so they stopped calling.

He is no doubt very very smart but doesn't have the energy for radio. I like him much better on TV.
