Tincap

After reading ftballfan's post, with a reference to Trenton Military VOLMET, it peaked my recurring interest in aviation HF, which can be heard in the SW bands.

If any of you folks are interested, I do have some links which I can dig up and you're certainly welcome to add to the thread, but I've got an interesting one on the go right now - 11300 kHz (USB). This is known as the AFRICA 3 Route and I'm getting very good signals from aircraft communicating with Tripoli Libya and Khartoum Sudan.

Here's a list of HF frequencies, used by region, for communication between aircraft and ATC around the world. As with other SW broadcasters, the different frequencies are used during different times during the day, which is all part of the challenge of bagging something in the more exotic locales. :D

When I lived in the Philippines, I used to monitor San Francisco Radio on 21985 all afternoon.

High enough in frequency to keep most of the atmospherics down.

Would track each afternoon's flight progress on the Air Mike (Continental Micronesia) island hopper, island to island across the southwest Pacific.
