For those that may not have seen the Super Bowl, there was a spot for Bud Light called "Work" which featured the camera going into different parts of a room aiming at things until it reached a Bud Light bottle. In the background you hear "Levels" by Avicii. Towards the end of the spot you see people dancing around and then Avicii behind the decks!
Why do I bring this up on a radio board?? Simply put....it is TIME. There may have been other times where it may have been "TIME" but this really is it.
Corporations are beginning to recognize and are branding dance music in a positive way. Just like a recent ad featuring a Deadmau5 track, ad execs are starting to realize that using dance music (EDM) in ads do get to that younger demographic and can be successful at it. Add to the fact that they featured this during the Super Bowl, the biggest advertising event of the year, shows backhandedly, aside from selling beer lol, that dance music has now become part of the mainstream.
Now it's time for radio corporations to realize this BEYOND just the current cycle of dance/rhythmic artists on CHR stations. This is now the time for dance/EDM formats to appear on the radio with our branded artists in there (alongside the CHR aspect). Not just in NYC, Miami, Chicago or L.A. but as many places as it can possibly go for the audience that is, or potentially can be, there!
I know for the most part that I'm "preaching to the choir" here and you've heard me all these years rant and rave about things. But this spot really is a positive step! Hopefully Madonna's new track could be her major comeback and change things further for the best
