Does anybody have any callout data or listener response to "Girlfriend" by Avril Lavigne? This song is REALLY getting on my nerves. haha

From what I've seen on RateTheMusic... at Hot AC... it's testing OK... nothing off the charts. As for requests... it's been kicking ass on phones for a while now. Yeah.. it's getting annoying pretty quick... but thats what the "studio volume" knob is for :)

If you hate this song, check out WMMX/Dayton. They're not playing it at all. On the other hand, over at WBNS/Columbus, they play it constantly. It should be no suprise that Avril's songs burn quickly because most of her tunes are run into the ground on the radio and even on Muzak at my workplace, especially "My Happy Ending", "Nobody's Home", and "Fall To Pieces". The response about the volume knob in the studio was pretty comical as well...I wish I could turn it down when I hear the three above-mentioned songs. Consider yourself blessed! ;D

You got your wish! "Girlfriend" burnt out pretty quickly on Hot AC radio. It was catchy enough for adults who grew up on "Mickey" by Toni Basil, but not adult sounding enough to become a huge hit on this format.

Burnt out fast for us - heavy phones for a bit then pretty much a huge backlash. It's the most cited song for annoyance on our entire playlist these days.

I've actually liked this one since it came out. But then again, I've always been a real sucker for really catchy upbeat hooks. I'm sorry, but I'm still not tired of this one and I still crank it when it comes on. (And to make it even more embarrassing, I'm a 37 yr. old guy :)

My station near Nashville, TN is one of the few "Hot AC" stations in the US that is on the AM Band. Most of them, of course, are FM stations. The song sounds real well on AM. I'm 43, and I decided to be daring on the AM Band.

The mindset of the listeners and broadcasters is that if your on AM, you've got to play country music (new or old), gospel, news/talk, or some ethnic format. If your on AM and your going to play secular pop, consultants and listeners think you must play 50's-60's Oldies.

After 14 years of play the same 450 Oldies titles, I had enough, and we changed the format to Hot AC. Oh, I got a bunch of negative reaction from the 40 plus audience, BUT, doing Hot AC on AM reminds me of what Top 40 sounded liked on AM in the early 70's. After 8 months of being Hot AC, I'm getting positive reaction, and lots of hits on our website!

It's REFRESHING to hear Avril's "Girlfriend" on an AM station! The AM Band has almost become DEAD and I decided in my area to brighten it up a bit!
