Aw, CRAP! Goodbye Comedy 102.7. Hello more Spanish....

Actually it is just what our market needs. I enjoyed the novelty of Comedy 102.7 but I stopped listening to it awhile back. Latino 102.7 is not another Nortenõ/Tejano format, its a Spanish top 40 mix that has a dance lean which I think its great.

Re: So long, Comedy 102.7

You can continue to hear the 24/7 Comedy Network feed on I Heart Radio.
All Emmis was doing was inserting local commercials.

Never was a big fan of Comedy radio but not a big fan of another Spanish station either.

This station is Latino but not really Spanish. The music mix and the liners are bilingual. I heard Shakira doing one of her Spanish hits in English. I would have prefered the original.

The Bob Bullock Texas History Museum had an interesting exhibit on words that were originally Spanish. Remember it was the Mexicans who talk the first English-speaking immigrants how to ranch here. The list of ranching terms includes: corral, rodeo, lasso... hell even ranch came from Spanish. So to say it's a foreign language is just plain wrong.

But getting back to the change on the 102.7 translator... It's not really a Spanish format. The tunes are both in English and Spanish and so are the liners and promos. They are going after people who may be bilingual but it's not required. There's room in the tent for everybody.

You don't have to go that far back to find other languages besides English being spoken near San Antonio or Houston. Go out I-10 around Columbus, Weimer, Schulenberg, etc. and I guarantee you, you will hear people speaking Czech. I would be surprised if some of the smaller, locally owned stations around there don't have some type of Czech specific programming at some point of the week.

KVLG in La Grange continues that tradition:

Old Music Show
Saturday Morning 9 a.m. - Noon

Polka Program
12:45 - 2 p.m. Monday - Saturday
1 p.m. - 3 p.m. Sundays

I agree. I think this format is good for the Austin market. Hopefully, it will become more English base and give KHFI some competition.

I just heard it last night for the first time, and was completely surprised as from the original description I took away that it was just another Spanish music box. I'm not sure I'll listen to it, but I won't, as before, automatically dismiss it.

Its hardly surprising that Emmis took this step. All they were doing with Comedy 102.7 was running the 24/7 Comedy Network. They never even tried to localize it even though there are some really good comedians working for Emmis and the local scene is thriving. A satellite format like that has a limited shelf life.

Somewhat like Radio H2O. Or Mega 101.

Even the history of Engel will show a great Czech heritage in Texas.
And you can hear KLUM down there in Columbus which still has a Polka show.
