award winning

WGN Radio took top honors at the National Association of Broadcasters 2009 Marconi Radio Awards. At the ceremony, held September 24 in Philadelphia, WGN Radio was named News/Talk Station of the Year. This is the tenth time since the awards were first presented in 1989 that WGN has been named a Marconi Award winner.

"WGN's success is based on being relevant, continually evolving in news & entertainment; and being uniquely 'Chicago.' The W-G-N call letters are synonymous with Chicago" said Tom Langmyer, Vice President/General Manager of WGN Radio.

The other finalists in the News/Talk Station category were KGO-AM in San Francisco, KIRO-FM in Seattle, KLBJ-AM in Austin, and KOA-AM in Denver.

Hmmm - no WLS or WIND. Sorry-NOT!

Congratulations. Some years ago, WGN used the slogan...WGN IS Chicago. Looks like history is repeating itself and a once great radio station is becoming great again. It's easy for people who have never fought in real radio battles use this site to second guess and be critical of difficult changes. This award comes from the radio industry...from their peers and is well deserved. Good work, WGN. :)

Hmm, only NAB members were eligible... I guess that leaves out Mr. Marconi himself.

I add my congratulations to WGN... they are also the best sounding AM station in Chicago, and one of the few 50 kW AM stations to have completely shut off IBOC... for good, I hope!

How about a shout out to Bloomington, Illinois' WJBC, the small market winner. And longtime winner at the cash register. Shows what can be done with a "graveyard channel" am.....even with a bunch of larger market signals around.
