ax is swinging at 99.1 WPLM

Maybe they're going to sell the outlet to WGBH for $14 million...then become WCRB South.

The format at WPLM has been so inconsistant for so long.....I doubt getting rid of Frank Mitchell will solve anything. It will be interesting to see who picks up The PD title. I'm not sure anyone can turn it around...now that they've lost their core audience

Are you trying to Blind people with that text? It hurt my eyes and gave me a headache..... And I almost NEVER get headaches. I'm not even joking.

Word is out.... (and so is Mitchell.... lol) Now that THAT anchor has been cut loose let's see if they can finally make like Stella and "get their groove back" !!

Maybe they may really get smart and dump Delilah and figure out a way to bring back J.J. Austin, a show that exuded class, committment to great music, a sense of caring about what the audience enjoyed and NOT just about what the Program Directors' enjoyed.

Did they ever have a "groove"? I always associate them with being kind of a sleepy "old folks station". Even now that I'm old (well, middle-aged), I still rarely think to give them a listen.

PLM is trying to be MJX without the Boston signal IMHO

Delilah ( the Queen of sap who I can't stand) head to head against David Allen Boucher MJX wins hands down

Audrey Constant mid days programmed against Nancy Quill, they are very similar. Full disclosure... I have worked with Nancy Quill a long time ago, she has done very well at WMJX, but I like Audrey Constant's delivery better.

Is it a case of PLM trying to siphon off enough of MJX's audience to be profitable?
Hey it's working for WBZ-FM in the battle with WEEI, but WBZ-FM has the signal to pull it off with decent ratings.

I sat in on the overnight at WPLM with " Daniel Stevens" about a month ago. He works his backside off doing the overnights and the morning news and traffic. He didn't stop for a moment from the minute he came in the door... I was really impressed with his knowledge and in my opinion he could run that station.

When I get south of the 495/93 interchange I can and do listen to WPLM quite a bit. I like their playlist.
I listen online from home and when I am at the radio gig.

The 64 dollar question is, IF WPLM is tryinng to be a WMJX Jr, where did Frank Mitchell fail? Did he fail? Is this the start of a format change or just a tweaking of current one. My money says they are going to stay the course, with someone new at the helm. Who that someone will be... who knows.

Hey Oldbones give them a listen I think you'll be surprised at what they are playing.

I didn't hear any of the "music of your grandmothers life" except for "Strictly Sinatra" or the Dick Robinson show they run at midnight Sunday till 2 AM

WPLM = Total frustration.

A radio station that could be great if they had a little more imagination.

It is lacking a certain quality and quantity of decent music.

An 'MJX wannabe.

A friend from another station told me that she heard Chris Stevens on the air this morning.

I am told she is PLM's top sales person. With her off the streets for a couple of extra hours a day maybe my favorite sales person/ karaoke star can steal some of her accounts for her station!

Hey boardop..... who are you refering to? The top sales person you are refering to at PLM is NOT a female....if you are talking about Chris Stevens... he is a man, and I've heard, is their top sales guy.

A rock format – similar to CBS’s Freeform - might be perfect on WPLM.

Ever think there might be a reason that CBS's Freeform is an HD-only format? The audience and -- more important -- advertising potential just aren't there.

YES!!!...... 99.1 had it's "groove" 'goin on back when they WERE playing Big Band and Dixieland Jazz. OK......so the demos weren't the greatest, but the format must have made the Campbell family a few bucks.

These days, the only things worth listening to on 99.1 are the Saturday Sinatra show, and the Sunday "Music America" program.

As for the rest of the week... the music they try to format is being done better elsewhere.

My uncle in Rhode Island used to listen to that Big band music on 99.1 all the time when he was still around. He absolutely loved taking drives to nowhere special. I remember growing up and taking rides with him. It was a guarantee that I would fall asleep in the back seat listening to that crap. But he absolutely loved it!

There are always the stories about why stattions have certain calls...

WLYN for Lynn Massachusetts, the C.O.L.

WGBH... Great Blue Hills...

WATD.. We're At The Dump ( true story)

and WPLM... We Play Lousy Music well maybe not what they intended but it fit for many years
