Axel's last song on 99.7FM

Gee, how trite & predictable to play a song from one of the innovators of "nu rock", one of the genres that helped destroy alternative rock. It would have made more sense to play the very first song spun on 99x than that one!

What's your definition of "nu rock"? Green Day was one of the first big bands to break during 99X's run. Dookie came out in 1994 and exploded (it's still their best-selling album). "Good Riddance" was a huge single during 99X's peak (specifically, in late 1997 / early 1998). (That's pretty much why I first suggested it.)

And their first song would have made no sense. It was "Video Killed the Radio Star", which is hardly a song to go out on.

You suggested it first. Whoopee..wanna cookie?

Nu rock is Greenday, Linkin Park, etc. Artists that can be loud, yet CHR friendly. That's not alternative. "Good Riddance" is overplayed, and synonymous with the final episode of "Seinfeld". A silly little ditty like this song really doesn't convey the sense of loss being felt, IMO.

Actualy, it would make sense, as they're moving to be a "Visual Radio Station", but I wouldn't call it a great song to end on. Being the REM fan I am, I think Axel's last song was well played...
