Last weekend, the SPEED channel became FOXSports1 (a competitor to ESPN). For racing and motorhead fans, SPEED carried a lot of NASCAR (Sprint Cup, Nationwide, Trucks and ARCA) events including practice, qualifying, many of the races and more. There were races from dirt tracks, from Australia and other worldwide locations. Informational shows like SPEED Center with the wrapup of today's racing news or WindTunnel with Dave Dispain where all aspects of racing were discussed. You could even see DIY type shows like GEARZ, Two-Guys Garage and Chop,Cut Rebuild to learn how to work on your own "classic" vehicle.
Most of that all changed with the launch of FS1. The numerous shows from the tracks have been cut down to almost nothing (which may be a blessing since some of them had become very childish). SPEED Center and WindTunnel are gone. Practice and qualifying can usually be found but not always. The qualifying for the Truck race last night was shifted to FOXSports2, which means if you get your signal from Cox, you have to pay extra for the sports tier.
Finally, to add insult to injury, the Sprint Cup race from Bristol on Saturday evening will not be seen on our local ABC channel. They are showing the NFL Cardinals preseason game at the same time and have moved the race broadcast to the 15.2 subchannel (which is also available on cable and satellite).
