AZ Star: Jim Slone

In today's (November 12) Star Accent section there is a story
by Bonnie Henry on Jim Slone--back to the past along with the
present KEVT transaction.

Some pics too...one of the KCUB brain trust from 1976, appears
to have been staged in the production room as it looks too sterile
to be the air studio, includes Jungle Jim and the Kentucky Fried
Turkey. (I don't expect anyone except perhaps zumahansnews94
and radioguy58 to get the "KFT" reference, it's so obscure.)

I welcome Jim back with open arms. I said, only about 6 months in at his last properties that I'd gladly stay with him until I finally "hung up my headset" (get my drift?).

Believe me when I tell you that in my 30 years of broadcasting I've literally worked for them all. I am absolutely unable to make the claim I made above about ANY of my former employers. Jim is the exception. In fact, when the sale (to Citadel) was announced, the staff was assembled in his large conference room to pass the baton... then, following that meeting, I approached Jim in the hall and told him how much I would miss working for him, but that I understood. He told me that he had been considering retirement for a while. Somehow, I knew he wouldn't be gone from radio for long. His employees were loyal to him as he was to them. For Jim, it was more than a business. He IS a true broadcaster and an absolute gentleman.

I look forward to his return.

Great stories (in the AZStar article) from a great radio man.

The format will in fact be a mixture of classic/old country and old/nostalgia pop.

And then. He buys an FM. And there goes KIIM. Good night nurse.

Says the man who's obviously not quite ready for retirement: "I'm going to have a radio jukebox filled with songs that I love. I am very fortunate. I can drive around and listen to my own jukebox."

Good for HIM! Jim is going to once again turn around Tucson radio. Glad you're back buddy!

Do you think Vicki Lawrence, Tanya Tucker, The Carpenters, Charlie Rich, Melissa Manchester, Ann Murray, Elvis and Kenny Rogers are a format or a jukebox?

The big question...when will Jim be hiring! I think there is a ton of people that want to work for/with him.
I know a multi talented on-air personality, web designer, video producer that is pondering opportunity.
Hmmmm

I'll be right in line with you. Already have my on-air package ready to go.

Just waiting for the green light.

I'm guessin' this would be a great fit for Doc, also what about Bill Mortimer?? What about Dan Gates, radioguy58 too???? All good people!!!

Glad to see Bob Jones is a part timer at KIIM! :)

1060 would cause nasty interference with the station in Tempe. 1030 is more likely.
