AZ-TV News Release

Out of respect for the families and co-workers of Scott Bowerbank, Jim Cox, Rick Krolak and Craig Smith, we delayed issuing this news release until after last week's memorial services. It was not a time for competition.

I post it here because members of the board have expressed an interest in knowing about AZ-TV's progress.

Thanks,
Michael Hagerty

AZ-TV BIG GAINER IN JULY!
Seven other English-language stations down or flat

AZ-TV (KAZT, Channel 27/Cable 13) was one of only two English-language commercial stations whose primetime ratings increased in the Phoenix market during the just-completed July, 2007 Nielsen sweeps….and the only one of the five independents and baby nets.

In primetime (7:00-10:00 PM), AZ-TV gained 25% compared to the July, 2006 sweeps. ABC affiliate KNXV (Channel 15) was up 7%.

“To be one of only two stations to improve is big news.” said Ron Bergamo, AZ-TV General Manager. “To improve by 25% in that environment is evidence that we’re doing something right.”

NBC affiliate KPNX (Channel 12) and CW affiliate KASW (Channel 61) were flat. Independent KTVK (Channel 3) was down 5%, CBS affiliate KPHO (Channel 5) lost 17% of its primetime audience from a year ago, Fox owned and operated KSAZ (Channel 10) fell 4%, MyNetworkTV affiliate KUTP (Channel 45) dropped 40% and ion affiliate KPPX (Channel 51) lost 33%.

“For years, we’ve compared ourselves only to our nearest competition, the other independents and baby nets.” Said Michael Hagerty, AZ-TV’s Director of Programming and Promotion. “But this time, the story is really about all nine English-language commercial channels. For the other stations, the best news in July was a 7% increase. The worst was a 40% loss. But we’re up 25%. The audience is voting with their remote controls.”

Shows driving AZ-TV’s remarkable gains in primetime include According To Jim, which improved the 8:00 PM hour by 66%, and Frasier, which improved on its own number from a year ago by 17%.

More comedy is on the way to AZ-TV this year, as George Lopez debuts in primetime and Reno 911! and Chappelle’s Show premiere in late fringe on September 10. Additionally, AZ-TV will move into morning news programming on September 3 with The Daily Buzz, a fast-paced news, information and entertainment show with great appeal for young adult viewers.

AZ-TV is Arizona’s only locally-owned television station, part of Londen Media Group, featuring a unique mix of locally-produced programs (The Pat McMahon Show, AM Arizona with Tonya Mock and Lew Rees, Autoshow with Michael Hagerty, Arizona Backroads with Marshall Trimble), NHL Phoenix Coyotes Hockey, D-Backs Playin’ Hardball, Maximum Cardinals and classic comedies of yesterday and today (The Andy Griffith Show, The Brady Bunch, My Wife & Kids, Married…With Children, Cheers, According To Jim and Frasier).
