B-96 playing some real dance finally

They have a New Pure Dance version of Lady Gaga Just dance in rotation, also a pure dance version of Kevin Rudolph-Let it Rock,,,, they play September, Cascada,,ETC and they have brought back their Live to Air weekend mixshows similar to those on Z-1035,, sometimes 2 full hours of pure dance like Progressive and hard House and Electro......... Most these songs are in light rotation except for Lady Gaga getting tons of spins,,, sometimes but not always they still sometimes play the original of Kevin Rudolph.. B-96 may still be a far cry of when they were Chicagos dancee beat, but they are back to how they sounded in the late 90s and early 2000-2001 before all dance in playlist and mixshows were dropped.... Now if more rhythmics or CHRs sounded like this it would be sooo awesome.... They need to add Kid Cuddi,,, im playing it and getting good phone response and we are a small town Mainstream CHR.

Also,, right now at 6 pm They are in the mix with an hour of pure dance,, this is awesome.. Im in Chicago freezing to death right now,,, we are going to the B-96 Jingle bash to see Rhianna, Chris Brown, Kevin Rudolph ECT.. its gonna be an awesome but very cold show.. Need lots of Whiskey and hot choclate to stay warm,, it will help if I can find some cute girls to snuggle up with...Yeah Right....

I guess this mix is called the 5 oclock flipside,, I forgot that the CHI is an hour behind us. Im on Anna's black jack 2 right now,, we are on our way to the jingle bash and have B-96 jammin in the car.. So I guess this is a daily thing.. Anna's Boyfriend Eddie was previously only into Rap like Lil Wayne and Anna is into Alt-Active Rock but Ive really gotten them into dance since we been hanging out.. They really like the pop-Dance mixes like B-96 is playing right now,, but thats all good cause they are entry level dance listeners and though they love the beats, they need lyrics that they know.. Im gonna have them check out Z-1035 and Mix fm 104.4 Beruit when we return home tommorow morning.... I dont know where B-96 is finding these remixes,, we air simialar mixes on our CHR, but ive never heard these particular mixes,, I guess alot of them are promo's for B-96 only...WHO KNOWS.. Im sorry about the Typos but its kinda hard to type on this phone when your not used to web enabled phones.. Im gonna have ANNA download the CBS radio app so she can hear B-96 and other cool stations from her phone... Right now her phone doesnt stream audio as far as I can tell.... Now B-96 is airing POP-Reggea and Hip Hop,, so I guess its kinda like the Drive at 5 on Z-1035... But we got in a full 30 minutes of Pure Dance, so im not complaining and it sounds like the beats are picking up again, so more Dance may be coming before the end of the show,, they are playing TI-Rhianna Live your life right now,, heavily remixed but not quite dance.

B96 certainly does have some pretty interesting jingles for their station. If this is the direction we're headed in with music for the long run, then it should be very interesting to see what becomes of it. The amount of time in this increase in people jumping on dance beats has already outlasted the entire reggaeton phase, and I surely hope that this is not just another phase in music that will soon end like what happened with the late 90's timbaland and missy sound of r&b music, which was about 1997-2003. Hopefully these artists jumping on the trend of dance beats actually leads to something new, or a complete return of dance in general. It looks like electro-pop and dance are the direction we're headed in because much of the hip hop today has more melodic electro-pop elements rather than just dry beats and bass and the voice encoder being popular these days is definitely helping. TI's whatever you like is heavily filled with electronic elements, and the same thing with Lil Wayne's lollipop to some degree. Also, I'd like to see how these little kids growing up will react to this "new" dance style that is popping up? I've learned even through younger siblings that you cannot force things on people. Artists may change their style, but some of these younger kids are smarter than they might look or act. They realize when something isn't really hip hop or what they've been brainwashed to like any longer... But like I was saying, hopefully this trend does make something happen in the long run. It's about time for things to change once again. Thanks to Missy for being brave enough to try something "different" (during its time) and creating 1,2 step followed by lose control, which kicked off this entire re-evolution of dance process within the mainstream. Hopefully this bridges the gap between mainstream r&b, pop, and dance. If you really think of it, Rihanna's don't stop the music is like the CeCe Penniston "finally" of today. Remember how far dance went to evolve ever since those times back in the day? This present situation could be part 2 of things to come...

I just realized something:
It is very well possible that Timbaland, Missy, or some other producer could pop back with yet again another new style in sound and disrupt this entire dance music trend! I think it was when just about everyone became in the "new futuristic sound" of the late 90's style of r&b/pop/hip hop beats, this helped lead to the early stages of the death of dance music the first time around. Even Kylie Minogue went off in that direction with "Red Blooded Woman". Many of the booty bass rappers and artists (including 69 boys...etc) went off using those new style beats (that were many times the same rhythmic pace, but half the speed of the faster tempo music). Notice how as that whole phase faded away and the reggaeton got out of the way and things got boring, things sped back up.... and I can't hate on Timbaland and Missy because after all, even though they did slow things down, they sped things back up again in the "end".

Hopefully this time around, nothing happens to ruin the direction we're headed. Lil wayne, 50 Cent, and whoever else is out there still trying to stick purely (or mainly) to hip hop, I don't think they are enough to get in the way of things or save hip hop because as they can probably see, the people and artists around them are changing... Kanye, Beyonce, Akon, Flo-Rida, Christina Aguilera, Britney, Rihanna... etc. The best days of hip hop are over, and many of the silly songs being released today in addition to the fact that it has come to the point where Lil Wayne is charting many weeks in a row and becoming like the "next big thing up there with Tupac and Biggie" according to popularity, are only helping to kill what hip hop was all about. The future is here now. Hip hop is going to fall into the past. Things are changing....

LIL Wayne is kinda like one of those 15 minutes of fame type artist,, he will be around for a few more years and then fade out like Eminem did,, and in fact I think it was partly because of Eminems lyrics in the song WITHOUT ME Where he says nobody listens to techno, and his attacks on Moby that brought dance back to ground zero,, even though the song Without me was very uptempo and could be easily considered a Dance record itself, his lyrics made it clear to the youth that Dance Music wasnt cool,, this was around 2002 when dance was really hurting and Energy Chicago flipped, 95.3 party in Orlando flipped, and a year or two later we lost Miami's party 93.1,, and even though it wasnt a Dance station,, 95.5 the Beat in Atlanta dropped all its Dance product to become a Hip hop station.

So anyway, party is over and everyone but me is passed out as usual, so I hope I can sleep sometime soon.. If it was my car and my choice I would just face the Blizzard and take the 150-200 mile trip back home.. I hear its not near as bad of Weather in Central indiana, but there apparently is enough Snow there to close some roads,, I just hope by Morning that I-65 is clear enough to make it home without Anna killing us... I know that I-70 between Indianapolis and Saint Louis is closed, and thats way south of here, so thats not a good sign... Pretty good show, but I dont know if it was worth the Frost bite I think my Knuckles and feet got...

Okay,, IDK if this is really Dance related, more DX related,, but let me explain.. I tried to pick up Dance Factory tonight but instead of getting DF on 99.9 im getting Country Music from benton harbor Michigan,, IDK if its the cold weather or just cause we are on the 9th floor of a hi rise right on Lake Michigan, but on a Boombox I am picking up 104.5 WSNX from Grand Rapids even though I have a local on 104.3,, and they just played Hide U from Kosheen, so that was cool,, I was also able to pick up WKFR 103.3 even with Kiss 103.5 right next door on 103.5 Anyway WKFR is an Adult Friendly Cumulous CHR in Kalamazoo Michigan, and when I tried to pick up 92.7 which should be airing Dance Factory as well, I am getting U-93 in South Bend instead,, Well I cant sleep, and im in the dark, and even though I can clearly get these stations on the net anywhere at anytime, its still cool to DX them over the airwaves.. Im getting another CHR which I think is on 103.7 but its between WKSC which is surprisingly weak here in this building.. and ive got a station on 103.9 as well... I think the CHR on 103.7 might be the Millwaukie Kiss Fm but I cant make out an ID through the slop from WKSC,, If I had a digital tuner and could put a directional Antenna outside I bet I could get stations from Iowa to Detroit,, and if their werent Locals on the same freq, i could probably pull in some Indianapolis stations too..... B-96, and true Oldies 94.7 and Love FM 100.3, and some country station on 99.5 are the strongest stations here because we are so close to the Sears and Hancock buildings,, In fact if I had a North facing Window, I could easily see those Ginormous buildings,, Im probably maybe 2 miles from the Sears Tower,,,Our Hotel is right off Lakeshore Drive, But im sure you have no idea where im talking about unless you live in or have been to Chicago alot... Id like to try to some more Dxing but being right on the lake in a large hi-rise facing toward Michigan, Im thinking thats why I can DX michigan stations and South Bend Tonight,, Its possible that going to the ground level in the car we wouldnt be able to hear the Michigan stations.... Id like to try for WAZY Z-96.5 in Lafayette as I get it at home alot, but im not facing south, and B-96 is too strong to null out...

Sorry for the long irrelavent post,, but I cant sleep,,, and im really bored...

Your posts about west Michigan remind me of a short-lived dance station in that area...does anyone else remember WCXT "105.3 the Whip"? According to the Wikipedia link below, it was operated by Harbor Pointe Entertainment via a LMA, but legal issues resulted in the end of the LMA (and the station).

The station is now Mainstream CHR as WHTS "105.3 Hot-FM".

Does anybody know what The Pulse (Friday nights 1-4am) on KKFR is supposed to be about?
The only description on their website is "fresh underground cuts" or something like that.

I dont think its gonna be dance given the nature of the station,, But Pulse sure sounds like Dance show to me.

The Pulse is where fresh hip hop cuts will be featured from 1-4am.

I remember saying that hip hop was in the early stages of dying and there was a high probability that dance music may be where we're headed, BUT... there is a small circumstance that I didn't think about that has a slight possibility of making events turn out another way... and I'll get more into that at a later time.
Not to worry though - the possibility is SLIGHT, and the outcome of this evolution I still strongly believe could lead to a lot of dance or dance friendly releases to come. Dance doesn't necessarily have to be the next big thing, but as long as it becomes big enough to be recognized, that's all we REALLY need.

For example, we're in a hip hop generation, yet alternative is still receiving mass attention. If we can at least get dance to a level to co-exist with other hot genre's in America, that is acceptable. With that being said, there's really no reason for me to get into what in hip hop may possibly kill off the chances of dance taking over.

Ae you by any chance talking about the Skrewed and chopped sound?

I was referring to Obama winning these elections and the enlightenment that will inspire people to do more positive hip hop. We've gone through story telling to gangsta rap to being hard to softer rap/love songs, then moved on to this meaningless, but dance movement songs like Soulja Boy, Pop Lock N Drop it..etc. mixed up with other songs that basically talk about nothing at all. I believe when we got to the meaningless times, this is where hip hop began to fall. However, if the enlightenment encourages positive rap to come about, this will be yet another phase in hip hop music, and I believe hip hop will survive and dominate as long as it can manage to do well, and it will do well as long as phases continue to evolve within a sufficient amount of time. In other words, the enlightenment may cause a new phase in hip hop that may keep it going and possibly prevent anything from topping it.

At first, I wasn't thinking about the fact that just because a certain genre is topping the charts, this doesn't mean another genre can't continue to do well or rise up as well. Not only has Stevie B. explained how the result of these past elections will effect what takes place in the urban music world coming 2009, but I've also seen and heard what he has told me confirmed by other people and sources. This means there are an incredible amount of inspired artists out there ready to change the ways of music today. This may be beneficial to hip hop, but at the same time, this doesn't mean because people are inspired that the direction music is headed in right now has to come to a halt. Just imagine... we have a wave of inspired upcoming and present artists dong positive music WHILE the evolution in sound CONTINUES to become more dance friendly.

IT COULD HAPPEN.

So in the end, this may all turn out to be a good thing for dance music. Also think about the fact that dance music usually contains quality lyrics. People making hip hop and r&b songs that also contain quality lyrics, in addition to the trend of faster beats being used, could and may help more to bridge the gap between dance and hip hop at some level. Inspiration also encourages people to be more relaxed and creative. This will cause more people to open their minds, and when this happens in music, the possibilities are endless! I have a good feeling about next year. Some of the actions of stations like B96 and Power 106 are only confirming what I've been predicting to happen next year. 2009 will be a big year for music.

GET READY NOW.
