B-97, Bayou 95.7, Spud McConnell

After some discussion here about the liner voices on the B and Bayou, let me say this.

The liner voice on Bayou 95.7 which is scratchy and sounding like "Ole Black Joe" is reportedly WWL's "Ole White Joe" John "Spud" McConnell.

I have a hunch, but no inside info, that the liner voice on the B is yet John "Spud" McConnell again, using his thin acting skills to try yet again to sound like someone else.

There is nothing worse than an actor on the radio because the audience is bombarded with phony middle-age "hip-ness" and vocal theatrics to show the audience how allegedly entertaining the actor can be.

God knows, Spud is no Brad Pitt or even Gene Hackman. Or even not close talentwise to his good friend John Goodman. He should go back to the Little Theater and leave bringing the bacon home to his talented wife Maureen Brennan, the voice of "Treasure The Mermaid" and hundreds of easy to listen to commercials.

If "The Louisiana Kingfish" wants to sound like Ole Black Joe he should do a talk show on WQUE using Uncle Remus dialect and see if they swallow his accent.

Personally I think his impersonation of a black man is insulting. But what does Entercom care? Jesus, aren't there enough blacks around here who could do a black voice for Entercom?

Besides, his talk show is ALMOST the worst one on WWL. However, there IS one far worse on the station.

I hope 2006 brings us a better and more traditional WWL 870.

Actually the voiceover for B97 is Will Morgan. Check out willmorgan.com/

Well then, Will Morgan sucks!!! Mark Driscoll is the man to use for any voiceovers!!! Check out his site: www.markdriscoll.com.

And that thing about Uncle Remus,... LOL hilarious, but true! If Bayou wants a voice guy that rocks, try Mark Driscoll or the old WCKW voice (currently the voice for the Discovery Channels) Bill St. James!
