B-98.5 Technical problems during morning drive

Anyone else notice B-98.5 was off the air this morning around 8AM? Heard them back on for a bit, on what sounded like their aux transmitter (weaker signal) then around 8:30 sounds like their main came back with a dead carrier. I noticed their HD went offline after Christmas.

Most HD "encoders / transmission equipment" are "first generation" and not "bullet proof". In another five or ten years they should be as dependable as stereo generators. When I started, you had to "read" the frequency meter along with plate voltage, plate current, and "power" meter or antenna amps. on AM. IIRC there is a "PC" "encoder "in the HD audio chain. Hard drives do have a limited "life expectancy", The engineering part of this site has a topic on this subject. Apparently after four to six years the hard drives just die. If nobody reports the HD is down and if there is "no revenue lost" then it will be fixed when the engineering staff has "gets around to it".
