B&C's Annoying Splash Page

Has anyone else been perturbed at the persistent "splash" page on BroadcastingCable.com? When you first log on, the "splash" page gets in the way; in the past, I'd hit F5 or "refresh" and it would disappear. Now the F5 key makes it worse! What a slap in the face to the general public. First, they discontinue the Broadcasting and Cable Yearbook, and now this garbage.

I always just click on the thing that says "Close this ad" instead of "Refresh." Same thing happens when I visit The Onion. So far, I've been able to do that before I got perturbed.
That works for me. YMMV

You can't expect them to continue printing a $400 book that nobody needs, though, can ya?
If it's such a great idea, do you one up man. :)

The only connection between the magazine and the yearbook in recent years was the name, which was licensed by the owner of B&C to RR Bowker, which published the yearbook. They'd been separate products for at least the last 15 years or so.

As for the splash page...I'd rather look at that than pay the $199 they want for a year of their print publication.

The Yearbook is gone? Well, it's garbage anyway. I found numerous mistakes each year and reported them (just in the Carolinas), and only a few would get fixed. I can't believe anyone still paid for that thing with all the sources we have now.

Now the magazine needs to bring back it's old search function because I can't ever find anything. I can't update certain Wikipedia articles any more because I can't find the articles in the magazine.

How nice it was to flip through bound volumes of the back issues of the real thing last week. But I have to drive 60 miles to do it.

Did anyone see their cover the week after the digital transition? It was black, with a quote about someone forgetting to switch from analog. :D

Did you wait the whole year for the next issue, or check back on the shelf at the library the next week? Just sayin.

Apparently they didn't. Thus, it's gone.

With "all the sources we have now" it shouldn't be too hard to find stuff.
If wikipedia needs updating, you're gonna have to do more legwork, I guess.

Before the internet, the Yearbook and the "Television and Cable Factbook" were the bibles of the television industry, as they told you everything you need to know about TV, outside of "TV Guide".

Is the "Factbook" still being published?

It was my main source back in the day. The magazine had call letter and facilities changes. Yes, I actually waited a year or more. Many of the changes I hadn't read about because I didn't know about this site or it didn't exist.

I don't know but I used to look at it for TV information.
