B101 is now playing Christmas music, along with Sunny 104.5.
______________

Sunny

I don't think they can match Sunny's unbelievable Christmas library. Where can you hear a mixed variety of artists, including Frank, Lou Monti, Kenny Rodgers, Dino, Sammy, Nat, Bennett, Royal Guardsman, new and old classics, plus, plus, plus. Sunny sounds so good, I do not even care to go over and sample the B, do other listeners feel the same way, the ratings will tell the tale.

How dare those bastards at B101 dare attempt to commercialize Christmas this early! Why, it's only November 19th, do they not know that the official commercialization start date is not allowed till black Friday?

Sheeeeeesssssshhhh.

All I want for Christmas is my modern rock station back.

I said that all-Christmas was the most creatively bankrupt format EVER (worse than "Jammin' Oldies" and worse than "smooth jazz" -- which IS NOT jazz at all) when 104.5 went to it; the only thing worse is when a second station dives in.

It's even worse than when WIFI-92 played the #1 song every three hours and 20 minutes, around the clock, every day. You could set your watch by it. And that was BEFORE voicetracking. How does a DJ *not* go bananas doing that??

Having breakfast in a kosher deli yesterday, I was bemused by the music being played throughout the place: B101's all-Christmas extravaganza.

I half expected to see Jimmy Dean Pork Sausages on the menu. :)

Love it or hate it, Christmas music drives the revenue up.

Last night, on my way to Reading, I pulled in no less than 5 stations playing Christmas music (The Rose, WARM 103, Sunny, B101 and WLEV - altho LEV was only part time, IIRC).

Now, repeat after me..."radio is a business". Lather, rinse, repeat as needed.
______________

It's almost everywhere, but MAJOR kudos to WLEV, who proved that you can play a Christmas song (despite the insanely early push to have them on) followed by a regular song without the transmitter bursting into flames or the computer system crashing.

What a remarkable concept...you can like a holiday song but still like the regular format. Who knew?!?!?!?!

At least for a couple of days..after Wednesday, the only place around to find A/C music will be WJBR in Wilmington..unless they're going to jump into the fray this year...

Now, THAT would be an awesome bit of counter-programming. If PD Mike Waite will play mostly regular tunes with just a few Christmas titles thrown in for flavor, he might, IMHO, actually score some points with those (like me) who enjoy a mixture.

Are ya listening, Mike? :)
