I don't know when they will be rolling out that monika. How long do you think it will be until we hear Tone Loc's "Funky Cold Medina" on B101?

Sorry I meant to be on the last post, not start a new topic.
Edited by kenwood on 01/07/06 08:06 AM.

Well, it's time to remove a pre-set on the car radio. Slowly but surely over the past two years, WWBB has really turned me off. Glad I got Sirius Gold in my car now. 101.5 used to be a pretty decent station. Believe it or not, the call-letters of WWBB stood for "We Want Baby Boomers" (no joke!). Obviously, they no longer want us. Oh, well...c'est la vie. So, bye-bye... "B". Hello, Sirius!

At least you'll get Howard Stern with Sirius. As far as B101 goes...... I grew up in the 70's and 80's. So the station is finally playing some of my favorites now! So that pre-set you removed on your Car radio is now getting added to mine. So it's a draw. The station isn't losing listeners. It's just replacing them.

The WWBB-101.5 website promotes "Big Hits", but does not say what decade(s) those "big hits" come from.

Based on the list of the "Last 10 Songs" played on WWBB as of 8:06 P.M. EST January 7th, seven of the songs seem to be from the 1970's, a couple from the 1960's (1966 and 1969) and one from the early 1980's.

Besides, didn't KFRC San Francisco recently tweak their format to play hits from the 1970's and 1980's, with only a handful of songs from the 1964-75 period??

Yes, it was only three or four years ago that oldies stations for the most part dump pre-1964 titles. Now, most oldies stations will likely dump all or most pre-1975 titles and re-focus on the years between 1975 and 1989.

And what titles from 1975 through 1989 do get played will be those that test well with "soccer moms", given that women between 25 and 54 is the most desired demographic in advertising today.

I understand that the Bee's replacing thier listeners. What's the piont if your not gaining and just replacing.

The only thing I can sort of figure out is that they are moving 80's music away from WSNE and WHJY to WWBB so WSNE and WHJY can concentrate from like 1989 on.

Also this blocks 99.7 to a Jack type format. While 99.7 could more than likely go to something just 50's and 60's off the bird. but I don't think anything out there sticks with just that. KOOL 101 dumped the ABC oldies thing because they were playing to many 70's songs and KOOL 101 not Cool 102 werent extatict about that.

I hope I said that right.

It's 8 o'clock your talking about and the present show is off the bird and does nt really count. The songs on syndicated shows don't show up on the list.
Not slamming you thought you may have forgot about the God Awful show that's on now.

This year the baby boomers start to turn 60. Undesirable demographic. So long, sixties music.

I can see stuff like Chapel Of Love & Jay & The Americans type 60s music not fitting well with 70s & 80s but no one can convince me a classic hits audience doesn't still want to hear The Beatles & Simon & Garfunkel & even Motown. The Bee hasn't stopped playing that music yet. Let's see if it happens.

I'm also still trying to figure out where the audience is going to come from. Retail does things like this all the time in going for a younger demo with a younger image. Sometimes it works & sometimes it doesn't. Where is the classic hits audience going to come from? Coast or HJY? Same cluster unless either or both of those stations is going to undergo some changes in the near future.
