B101 may now be my favorite station

For the first time in a long while I've actually tuned in B101. I am really enjoying what I hear. This whole weekend they've been playing music from the 70's and 80's with sporadic 60's tunes thrown in. Is this their normal playlist now? Lots more 80's music than ever before. Good Stuff! I really like it.

You're probably hearing more variety on B101 on the weekend depending on the theme weekend. During the week they can be very repetitious but of course that's the safest way to go with classic hits. TSJ goes deeper with his 70s hour in the evening.

B101 musicaly sounds great. I do miss the old oldies sound though.I'm not to crazy about the current jingle package they are currently using.

Depending upon when you tune in you can hear the Supremes or Survivor, The Who or Wilson Picket.

The lean towards rock of the 70's and 80's is a plus staying away from Micheal Jackson's "Thriller" LP and Madonna is nice.

I agree, they sound pretty good right now. If they can resist the temptation to play a lot of disco records (hint: disco sucked back in the 70s and hasn't gotten any better since then) they should be eminently listenable.

I really hated disco when I had to play it, but now that I don't, I can deal with it. Something about familiarity & contempt.

You can always order the anniversary Disco Demolition DVD:

In a similar vein; I tuned in to Cool 102 yesterday and heard "Only want to be with you" by Hootie & The Blowfish. Is that odd for "Cool Classics"?

Rdizzy:

Cool 102 has been playing newer songs than that. You can count on hearing some current triple-A or rock AC songs every now and then, like Dave Matthews Band, Jack Johnson or John Mayer.

As far as B101, music evolves, and that's great. What is truly amazing though is that those older "oldies" from the late 50s and early 60s that B101 is now turning away from may people my age (mid 20s) still are familiar with. Between work and going out (karaoke comes to mind), many people my age still know songs like "Shout!", "The Twist", "Oh, Pretty Woman", "That'll Be The Day", "Do You Love Me," among many other similar songs. I'm surprised that B101 would completely abandon these super-familiar songs, even when the 20-somethings are still going crazy over them. Who needs more 80s music on oldies stations? HJY, SNE and Lite 105 got that all covered.

Not terribly impressed with B101,

Jacko
