Why the hell am I hearing Patsy Cline on B106? They say they're going to feature a different type of music each day for the next week. What the hell is Angoti thinking?

Angotti's thinking kicked off earlier this morning with Listen to Your Heart.

Stunting for a change maybe? Kiss 94-5 (now Channel 945-Dayton)hinted at a Jack-style format with a stunt that lasted a week, they played patsy Cline and other stuff, but it was just a reimaged CHR.
______________

That, and the small amount of Dance Music this station plays, is the only reason anyone listens to it. Otherwise they have Wild-Hot, and WMEE, playing pretty much everything that B106 plays other than Dance Music, and some ALT Rock...BTW, two questions about the Fort Wayne dial,,, Does Fort Wayne have A Modern Rock station, and is B106 still Dance Friendly. This might determine whether they are Going away or not......AND DEADHORSE,,Stay out out of this conversation.

B106 is going away...take it to the bank. Another stupid Artistic move.

Maybe it's the coming of "Art-FM", as someone suggested in another thread a few days ago? LOL (refer to one of the WNDV threads, pertaining to 1490AM)

I'm beginning to wonder if maybe there's a sudden fascination by AMP with the new "Jack" craze. Sure, Froggy is already in the area, but maybe the thinking is that if the interest is there, variety hits could do better on 106.3 just based on signal alone.

Maybe what AMP needs to do move the country format from 93.3 to 106.3, but retain the WBTU calls on 93.3 and simulcast U93's programming out of South Bend. Voila! "U93, Fort Wayne"!

Thats a good idea Matt, I would be a cheap way, of getting a decent CHR in Fort Wayne. They could always try being more Dance Intensive too, its worked in Fort Wayne before, and no, im not talking about Energy 102.9, im talking about z-102.3, and the old original B106.3 Chr format in the 90s, and even WMEE 97.3 played some Dance during the 90s.

Dude, I'm going to say this as nicely as I can... DANCE IS A DEAD FORMAT! Sorry to say it but that's a fact. Besides, in a town like Fort Wayne, dance would be the biggest mistake someone could make. It wouldn't even get a 1 share.

Simulcasting U93 wouldn't surprise me... AMP's notoriously cheap and I'm sure they'd love to go about this as cheaply as possible. But I doubt that would fly here. The last thing people in Fort Wayne want is a radio station that isn't local.

Last time I checked, Clear Channel, Cumulus, et. al. were no where to be found in FW.

I agree this is a bad move. Considering AMP put no money into marketing , promotions, or staff, that was a pretty decent sounding Pop CHR, and was showing growth in spite of lack of dollars put into it. By the way if you checked out Media Base you would have found that they were playing a lot of titles that no one else was playing in the market. It had a growing teen and college audience.

The only reason anyone is listening to b106 is because they are channel surfing. Did you see the Spring numbers in the Fort? B106 would finish sixth in a four man race. They need to find a format that is not being beat to death in the market AND will turn a profit...DANCE could not be a stand alone format and make a profit. How about Adult Standards? 102.9 had it's best ratings that I've seen when they were "The River" for that short period of time.
X102 and 98.9 The Bear do a great job of the Modern or Active Rock format.

I thought B106 tried adult standards several years back... this would have been prior to the AC format when they were "Sunny".

Musically, B106 is the only "real" CHR in Fort Wayne... why some regard WMEE as CHR, I don't know, I still see them as a Hot AC, although perhaps they lean a bit more CHR-ish than they did a year or two ago... but really haven't since they dominated Fort Wayne in the late 80's/early 90's. I don't see B106 stepping on any other station's toes... but, AMP has invested very little in the station, therefore they've gotten very little return. 96.3 wasn't a stellar performer when they were mainstream CHR either, but they did do better than the B is doing right now.

But I totally agree, there's too many stations doing too few formats in Fort Wayne. Granted, Fort Wayne's always had a large rock following, but 4 stations doing some form of rock and 4 doing some form of AC is a little crazy to me. Someone needs to grow some cajones and try something new... all 80's, how about all-70's hits? Go after some of Oldies' audience. There's two significant radio clusters in FW that seem to like flipping formats with each new year, there's got to be at least a few new formats they haven't tried yet.

JJ and Casey did a decent job with B106.3 and if the idiots at AMP had given it any promotional push at all, the station would have done better.

No jocks + no marketing + no promotions = no ratings

simple math

Very valid point.

The station I work for here in Lima didn't get over the hump until the new owners invested advertising and major promo dollars into the station.

Has anyone kept track of the songs played during the stunt? This morning, they're playing George Thurgood's Born to Be Wild. Last night's song was Holly Jolly Christmas, but I don't know what the country song a few days ago was.

who cares - it's a lame stunt, and it's gonna be a lame format when they put it on - and it'll follow the same AMP formula. No jocks, no promotions, no marketing, which means no ratings.
Edited by iknoweverything on 09/15/05 02:28 PM.
