B94: Resurrect Old Talent or Not?

With 3/4 of the old B morning show still employed by CBS, should the old morning show be reunited? Or are they too old for the demographic now?

It depends on if the format is regular CHR or adult CHR. For adult CHR, the morning show would be perfect. However, if they go mainstream, the B might need to try another morning show.

Good point, Todd. I agree.

How much of the "old talent" would come back?

Kobe - is now a PD in W. Palm Beach. Probably wouldn't come back, except to be PD.

Adam Bomb - is now in Atlanta, but working for Cumulus. Might come back, if for no other reason than that.

I believe the O.P. meant bringing back John, Dave, Bubba and Shelly. And, they worked very well together IMHO.

They probably bring in Ace and TJ. Their show is syndicated and cheaper than piecing together a local morning show. Also, the duo is more into the scene and has a lot of the "A-list" guests that appeal to the demographic.

Hopefully I am wrong on that, but I really can't see them piecing together a local morning show right now with all of the money they just paid out.

I looked up Ace & TJ.

They have a character named Yankee Pete who tells jokes about hiring prostitutes and then killing them to get his money back.

I actually think that is somewhat funny (which probably reveals something about me that isn't necessarily flattering), but, on the other hand, I hestitate to welcome these two because I know that John McIntire will be listening and taking notes.

Rumor has it J.D.B.S. in morning drive, Griffith in mid day, Hartwell in afternoons, up in the air so far otherwise. Have no idea if it is true, but the people who told me this were right on the money first time around rumors on B, Krock, and Zone happenings. I guess we will see.

I want them to do whatever is necessary to be successful this time. With that jock line-up, it sounds to me like Adult CHR for sure.

If that happens, it makes star expendable

I don't see Hartwell cutting it in Top 40 and Griffith just left on not great terms. Not sure if your source is right this time.

Hartwell was on B originally when it was top 40 I believe.

John Dave Bubba Shelly,.......perfect for the morning show. This would help people relate to the old B94 they loved. As for the rest of the shows, put some younger people in to compete with the Kiss lineup, unless like someone mentioned its an ADULTCHR then it doesnt matter, but if you got a CHR then put some younger hip people in, sorry but when I think of Johnny Hartwell I think someone in their late 30s and early 40s and that may be too old.

It should be easily for B94 to atleast take out the Kiss morning show, if they market the JDBS show as being back and B94 being back (and I mean dumping tons of money not just a commercial or a billboard) but promos from here to Kentucky, they should atleast succeed in the morning slot.

Like 10 years ago. But he's also the APD of Star. I don't see CBS having him work both stations...unless Ryan Mill is out and the Star will be flipping soon.

One thing I just remembered is Alexander worked for B back in mid 80s, so if they end up moving him into say evenings on B, that pretty much opens Star completely for a complete new format and airstaff as all really that remain would be J.R. and Kate.

I hope they promote the heck out of the new station. Most people I know never even KNEW there was a new format after K-Rock! I wouldn't have even known about the Zone myself had I not read this board. Hopefully the same doesn't happen with the new B94.

I have a feeling (and remember that we're all just speculating right now that it's a resurrection of B94) that the only "old" staff this time around will be the morning show, IF even that. I think CBS is going to look outside the market to build the station from scratch, in regard to staff.

If that much is true, I'll be sending my materials.

Maybe they'll put a Rock station on 100.7 with O&A on mornings and JR and Kate during the day. This will make both the Top 40 fans and the Rock fans happy and we can all live in peace! Maybe...

The thing I don't understand is why the five day delay with Christmas music? Why didnt they just flip then and there or wait until they were ready and flip?

Alexander won't work on Top 40. That's a definite. JR and Kate doing rock? No f-ing way. They suck at what they do right now.

It was a corporate decision. They need time to prepare. The Detroit Free FM that flipped basically did a lineup shuffle and simulcast of its AM sister. That takes no time at all. Also, a long stunting period generates more buzz.
