Only thirty-nine seconds late....
(song gets interrupted)
(constant droning sound for one minute)
1981: A year of change. A new President (ronald reagan soundbite). A new era of Space travel (shuttle launch sfx).
And a new cable network that influenced a generation (MTV sfx). But MTV's notion of killing the Radio Star was short lived.
April 1, 1981: April fool's day. WJOI abruptly interrupted its beautiful music programming at noon, to announce that a new station was signing on. The station was WBZZ FM and it would be called B94. The first song that was played was Billy Joel's "You May Be Right", and so began the most popular station in Pittsburgh's history. (sfx: B94 classic commercials).
Thruout the 80's, B94 introduced the stars of the MTV generation (various artists VO + clips).
In the 90's, B94 brought Pittsburghers the harmonies of Boys 2 Men and the alternative sounds of Alanis Morrisette, and the phenomonen known as Hootie and the Blowfish.
(various 90's era classic promo sfx)
Then June 30th 2004 after 23 years of bringing Pittsburgh today's music, it was gone...
And for three years, Pittsburgh was asking the same question...
(sfx various callers asking where's the b)
Pittsburgh, we're pleased to announce that after 3 years, your wish has been granted!
(more sfx various callers asking)
It's back for today's generation, Pittsburgh, please welcome home your B94, playing all of today's hits. Yes, the B is back.
WTZN Pittsburgh
